Let me permanently disable Smart Shuffle

I do not want to use Smart Shuffle, at all, ever. For the past few months it has been screwing up my Liked Songs and it is extremely annoying. When I turn off shuffle because I am in a block of songs I want to listen to, the next song it plays will ALWAYS be a specific song instead of the next song in the list. This specific song changes whenever I add more songs to my liked songs.

Seriously. Shuffling my liked songs and playlists is the main way I use Spotify. It's disappointing that Spotify removed a basic bit of functionality while spinning it as a new feature. Also, since I can't easily duplicate or copy my liked songs that's years of music I no longer have the same access to without the algorithm getting involved.

yes, I totally agree with the frustration in this thread. Since a few weeks smart shuffle was turned on automatically, and it took me a few days of frustration before I figured out that this feature exists. I'm leaving Spotify if this can't be turned off...

Even after I toggle off smart shuffle, the damn thing keeps reinserting itself. I have created my playlist after a lot of effort and I dont want, without specifying, someone to decide what I should listen to. Please improve or disable the feature.

This needs to change soon or i will cancel my subscription and pirate music again. This is blatently anti consumer forcing a feature of random music for a premium member

This option is absolutely pointless and disgusting in particular for audio books. No-one wants to listen to the chapters of an audio book in a random order!

Please add a setting which allows the user to define the default setting for this option, and set the default setting to "off".

It amazes me how long the community has been asking for this and yet there's no plan from Spotify to implement this feature. Guess it's time to go back to Apple Music

1 year later and no fix. No response from Spotify official either explaining why they are carrying on with this addition that no one wanted. Then they have the gall to give me a survey and ask if I feel a part of the community. Absolute clowns running this company, just like all the rest.

Such a terrible feature. And now they've made it so when you press shuffle, it does Smart Shuffle first? No, absolutely not. I'm about to move to Apple just to have this stop. Let me turn it off, we've been asking for months after it was introduced.

I strongly disagree with the model a lot of apps are taking up now of “shove suggested content down the users throat and not give them a chance to say NO”

If Spotify goes that route ala YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, I will be sure to cancel my subscription.

Nice to see this is a year old and we still don't have the ability to disable is permanently. Where's the update spotify?

How is this idea coming along? My playstation turns shuffle off every single time I use Spotify, and when I go back to my phone, I am forced to turn on smart shuffle to shuffle my playlist, which ruins my queue even when I turn it off(which takes 10 seconds for some reason). Do people use this?

I'm at a point where I'm considering cancelling my premium subscription because it really feels like it's not premium when it keeps shoving unwanted songs at me. I'm expected to each time toggle off the smart shuffle which I won't remember to ever do. There should at the very least be an option to save settings for the playlist or device. If I get an artist I don't know then I block them which isn't great for that artist obviously but it's just so annoying.

Is this an iPhone thing because I don't remember having this problem on android.

Please create a preference to disable this feature. I really dislike it and it’s too much of a hussle to manually disable it every time I want to shuffle music within one playlist.

I agree. I do not need the Spotify “nanny” helping me find music. I work hard to curate my playlist so that I can listen to songs I like. I don’t want to listen to Spotify’s suggestions for music it thinks I will like. I don’t need to be treated like an **bleep**. I know what I like better than they do. Why doesn’t Spotify disable this deplorable feature? At the very least, make the torture optional.

Earlier today I had to do a three hour car drive without the possibility to do a break.

Was really looking forward to listening to my favorite Playlist with all my favorite songs which I've built over the last few years. Turns out I've accidentally turned on "smart" shuffle instead of the good shuffle and only noticed it when it was too late.

Instead of all the songs I like Spotify was playing a lot of garbage I would never listen too. Some of the songs played were *specifically* NOT in the playlist cause I dislike them.

Really ruined my day. Thanks, Spotify. Really hate it when your service is good and useful. Thank god obviously terrible "features" like smart shuffle exist to ruin everyone's day.

For me, this feature is incredibly fricking annoying. For my old father, however? Putting in a feature like this randomly is really confusing and makes an app very difficult to use, especially when I can't disable it for him. It's really lacking in the accessibility department. Let us simplify these things so our older relatives can also enjoy streaming music, I don't pay for the family plan for nothing. 👍

Smart shuffle being added to the function of regular shuffle was the dumbest decision Spotify could have made.
