My Question or Issue

I recently moved from YouTube music to Spotify.

I noticed that Spotify battery consumption on my Samsung mobile device is pretty high when listening through my pc app. Spotify appears as running at background all the time.

In Spotify settings, I disabled "Spotify connect control" but the it doesn't help.

When I remember, I kill it on my  mobile from recent apps while on pc, but not sure it even helps and it's also quite a bad solution.

I just restricted its background usage (samsung sleeping apps, not deep sleep), maybe it will improve it, But hoping it'll not cause the app to shut down while I do listen to it when in background.

It's a real issue, no other app on my device cause that battery drain when I'm not even using it...

I saw some posts and discussions about it in the past but not recently.

Is it still a common problem? Any advices of what I can do?

Thanks

Hey @Gabi35,

Thank you for letting us know about this! Sorry to see you've been experiencing excessive battery drain on your Samsung.

What's interesting is that this occurs when you're playing via a different device. Have you checked if the heavy battery drain is also present when you're directly streaming from your mobile device?

If it isn't and this only happens when playing via the PC (or another Connect device), there's a few settings we can play around with to see if anything would make a difference:

Spoiler
  1. Set Spotify Battery Optimization to Restricted:
    • Go to Android Settings > Apps > Spotify > Battery.
    • Change the setting from Optimized to Restricted. This limits background activity when the app is not actively playing audio on the phone.

  2. Disable Nearby Device Scanning:
    • Go to Android Settings > Connections > More connection settings.
    • Toggle off Nearby device scanning to prevent continuous background polling of local network devices.

  3. Add Spotify to Samsung Sleeping Apps (as you have already done): Go to Android Settings > Battery > Background usage limits > Sleeping apps. Avoid Deep sleeping apps as that can cause playback to stop when listening directly on the phone with the screen off. Your logic in this regard has been on point!

If this doesn't help out, we'd like to know what your Android OS and Spotify app versions are. If you are listening exclusively on PC for long periods, tapping Force Stop under Android Settings > Apps > Spotify will prevent any background sync until the app is opened again would be a good temporary workaround until we figure this out.

Cheers! We'll be on the lookout for your reply.
