No sound when the equalizer is turned on in the application

No sound when the equalizer is turned on in the application

Xiaomi 12 (Android 14, HyperOS 1.0.11)

Spotify Android app (ver. 8.9.66.543)

Plan Premium (Belarus)

When the equalizer is turned on in the application, sometimes there is no sound when:
- the beginning of the next track;
- rewind the track;
- switching track;
- turning on any track.
The track itself plays in the application, the timeline moves, but there is no sound. This can only be cured by turning the pause on/off. There is a problem:
- both on wireless headphones and on the speaker of a smartphone;
- in the application, when controlled from headphones, on the lock screen widget.
When you disable the equalizer in the application, there is no such problem. I have a smartphone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, the application uses its equalizer.

Moreover, on the albums of the artists the situation is a little different: when the track ends and the next one begins, such a problem does not arise, but when manually switching or rewinding the track, the problem does exist.

Just today I was listening to music and the problem became very critical. This problem occurs on almost every track, which makes the application almost unusable for me. There was a problem before, but not as often.

And this problem is specifically in the Spotify application, because:
1) I checked in a third-party music player with the same equalizer - everything is fine there
2) Spotify has had a problem with the equalizer for a long time. Before this smartphone, I had another one, also on Snapdragon with the same equalizer. The smartphone was weak and the equalizer started up late, up to several seconds. There was no such problem with sound loss, but I am still dissatisfied with this playback algorithm.

I hope that Spotify will quickly resolve the problem; I am ready to assist and, if necessary, provide additional information. I doubt that the problem can be solved by turning on/off some settings. And of course, turning off the equalizer is not a solution to the problem!

I had a very similar problem with skips turning my music volume to max. It looks like the built-in equalizer caused this mess, because after turning it off the volume works like it should be.

Hey @SIDLESS,

Thanks for posting this thread and for the details! So we can investigate further, we'll need some further info.

Because you mentioned that you checked in a third-party music player with the same equalizer, could you let us know if this is a separate equalizer app on your phone or are you only using the in-app equalizer that you access from Spotify's settings > Playback > Equalizer?

It'd be great if you could also share when you noticed this behavior, if it was after a specific event and in case you've done any troubleshooting such as a clean reinstall for example.

We'll be on the lookout 🙂

Yes, both in Spotify and in a third-party application I connected the internal equalizer in the application settings.

I don’t remember exactly when this problem started, most likely in the spring of this year. Back then this was a rare occurrence and only appeared when switching tracks from wireless headphones. But this week, perhaps after the latest app update, it began to appear on almost every second track, no matter what playlist it was in.

No action was taken, this problem appeared on its own. Before this, I also listened to music with an equalizer on the same wireless headphones and there was no such problem. Before writing this post, I reinstalled the application after clearing the cache and deleting all downloaded tracks. The problem remains.

Hey @SIDLESS

Thanks for getting back to us.

Would you mind giving a different internet connection a go to see if the same happens?

If so, could you send us a short screen recording of the issue happening so we can take a closer look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

We'll be on the lookout.

“Music acts like a magic key, to which the most tightly closed heart opens.”– Maria von Trapp

Everytime I use the skip button there is a chance that the next song won't play until I pause and play it again. same if I spool back and forth in the song using the slider.

Hey

Seems like you're having an issue worth investigating.

You should try deleting and reinstalling the app. Hopefully that'll fix the issue.

If not, please search for the issue in the respective help section and post there to be in the loop. If it doesn't exist you can create a new topic, so it can fixed.

Note: I'm not a Spotify employee.

Thanks to you my Spotify is now fixed, it turns out there's some bug with the equalizer currently, so I just had to turn that off. Thanks for your help 🙂

My Question or Issue

Since the last two Spotify updates, the problem persists:
When the equaliser is switched on (regardless of the settings), the sound goes haywire.
If you fast forward songs, there is often no sound until you turn the volume up/down again. Likewise when you skip songs, sometimes there is sound, sometimes not.
Problem exists online and offline, with and without Bluetooth.

Hey @x86x,

Welcome to the thread!

Could you let us know if you've tried any troubleshooting steps so far and if you've noticed if anything impacted the playback? It'd be very helpful if you could give us as many details as possible, so we can investigate.

Thanks and we'll be on the lookout.

The troubleshooting i was trying was: clear cache, clear data, reinstall app, update phone.

None of them worked.

Everytime i restart my phone it works for ONE time. Until i restart the app again.

I have the same issue, when equalizer is turned on, changing tracks silences the music but the app shows that the songs continue to play when using bluetooth earphones.

I've tested with JLab GO Air Pop, and with JBL GO 2 speaker. When changing to the next track, or previous one, the music would go silence, I have to pause and play again to continue listening to the music. This mainly happens when I use the earphone/speaker controls, but also happen when changing in the app itself.

I've tried quick and clean reinstall, but only turning off the equalizer resolves the issue.

Thanks everyone for the reports!

Our tech folks will investigate further. We'll keep you posted here as soon as we have any new info to share.

Cheers 🤘

Same problem here on Xiaomi 12T pro. Only turning off the equalizer helps but it's not a solution as I can't use this function anymore.

Got the same problem, can't have equalizer on without bug. Ut was 3 month ago, what's the solution then pls?
