My Question or Issue

Recently, I have been unable to swipe away the Spotify controls notification once I'm done listening. It'll just move over to show the notifications options button. The only way to get rid of the controls notification is to close the app or let Android put the app to sleep after 10-30 mins. This is very annoying as with the Android 11 update, I can only see one notification on my lock screen at a time, and Spotify always takes priority, even if I'm not listening to anything. I have to unlock my phone, scroll over on the multitasking menu, and close the app to dismiss the notification.

Every music app I use either lets me swipe away the controls notification, or gives me the option to close it from the notification. I feel like this must be a bug, but can't resolve the issue or find anyone else with the problem. I've tried deleting cache/data, uninstalling and reinstalling, changing various notification options, but nothing helps.

Version 8.7.54.403 rolls out today and the bug persists which is exactly what I expected of Spotify.

Using YT Music right now it's great been able to stop your music and dismiss the notification and that's it.

Such minor functionality and the source of such annoyance yet Spotify refuse to fix it. Laughable really.

I haven't checked YT Music yet. I saw the interface is pretty similar to Spotify and prices are the same. I will give it a shot and see how I feel.

I have been having the same problem. In my case the control notification doesn't even go after I've cleared the RAM of phone (Mi 10T with Android 12). When I turned off permission for 'permanent notifications' in the settings, it went away but now it doesn't appear when I play music.

Which means that it is a bug from Spotify making it a permanent notification instead of a conditional one. So dear spotify, please stop blaming it on android, and just look into it from your side. Thank you

It'd be nice if the mods showed up just to say hello and tell us the devs are working on it again. It's been a few days since the last one showed up. Please Spotify, don't ignore this. Just look at how many people are with this problem, you can't just pretend we don't exist and keep launching updates. I mean, you can, but we're asking this for months now, just give it a little look and if it's not solvable let us know so we can stop coming here every day to see if there's any news.

Don't for a second believe that this is not solvable and wouldn't want to be giving mods that notion. This is pretty basic functionality that is baked into Android and Spotify are effectively circumventing to make their notification persist once a user stops playing music. The fact it used to work demonstrates that can be solved and this is rogue functionality Spotify has introduced. I agree it would be nice to get an update from a mod on here.

Spotify, hurry it up. I'm one of the original repliers to this thread and it is still ONGOING. This should be such an easy fix and it's still frustrating. I haven't gotten used to having to force-close the app because we all just want the notification to be dismissed easily. Moderators - surely there must be a way to escalate this. It's a joke. We all pay for the service and should have complete transparency with the company we're delivering huge profits to.

Just get this sorted now.

You know what.. There are worse things in life. I first commented on this issue on page 1 or 2. I'm glad it's not me who is too stupid to configure the OS or the app properly. But I don't expect this issue to be fixed anytime soon. If it is even classified and prioritized as an issue in the first place.

I will probably continue to use Spotify for the time being as my playlists and followed artists/albums are there. And it's hard to migrate all that to another provider. I don't have the patience to do that, nor do I have the time and energy to be mad about this situation. I will just force quit Spotify for now and that's that, there is more important stuff to worry about in life.

In the end, when there will be more inconveniences that are harder to fix altogether (and I know this time will come eventually), then it's time for me to think about moving on.

Of course there is more important things in life and it's worth the energy of being mad about but at the same time it's important that it is continuously highlighted in the hope it gets resolved. Just ignoring and accepting certainly won't bring this to a resolution any sooner.

Any update Spotify? This is the equivalent of the x button not working on a Windows application and having to use Ctrl Alt Delete to kill it with task manager. It just wouldn't be accepted. Please get the finger out on this issue. Regards.

Same problem on my end. Samsung Galaxy NoteFE with Android 9. Last Android update from April 2021. This has worked in older versions of Spotify and since a couple of weeks(?) it changed.

Definitely Spotify's fault.

Most annoying: when my phone connects to my car's Bluetooth, it will automatically start playing Spotify and there's no direct way to exit Spotify but killing it totally...however it will come back the next time I connect.

I can swipe it away now after removing battery optimizations, thank you!

I tried to remove battery optimization and it worked once, I was so happy so I went to try again and it stopped working. I'm sad.

Another update rolls out and again as expected it's not fixed. Forget about workarounds the issue is a bug in the application that Spotify clearly are not bothered fixing. Beyond incomprehensible behaviour.

Battery optimisation doesn't do anything and the update didn't fix anything.

As expected.

Still works

If this is true it's an isolated case. Bug very much present on all Android devices I have seen.

The same for me on MIUI 13 (A12), Redmi Note 10 Pro. Back on MIUI 12 (A11) it was working fine - I couldn't swipe the notification as long as the music was playing, but after pausing the notifciation could be swiped away. I just found it today and can't believe that the team hasn't fixed it in few months. Wow! It's so annoying that I'm starting to look for an alternative to Spotify.

Instead of the ❤ button, why didn't the devs change this to the X button?

People talking about x buttons are confusing the issue. Stop/pause your music should work per standard Android OS behaviour. Anything else could be related to specific Android skins. It's the core functionality they need to address here.

Come on Spotify, do something. We're waiting.

Same problem here and I hate it. Was hoping to find help and support in this thread only to find my hope destroyed and ignored. Can't be that hard to bring that function back, can it? Come on, Spotify ..
