My Question or Issue
Recently, I have been unable to swipe away the Spotify controls notification once I'm done listening. It'll just move over to show the notifications options button. The only way to get rid of the controls notification is to close the app or let Android put the app to sleep after 10-30 mins. This is very annoying as with the Android 11 update, I can only see one notification on my lock screen at a time, and Spotify always takes priority, even if I'm not listening to anything. I have to unlock my phone, scroll over on the multitasking menu, and close the app to dismiss the notification.
Every music app I use either lets me swipe away the controls notification, or gives me the option to close it from the notification. I feel like this must be a bug, but can't resolve the issue or find anyone else with the problem. I've tried deleting cache/data, uninstalling and reinstalling, changing various notification options, but nothing helps.
Hey there @Dantpool,
Thanks for the reply and for the video recording! We've gone ahead and passed this info to the right team.
We can't provide you with a timeframe in which this will get addressed but we'll let you know as soon as we have an update on the topic.
If anything else comes up in the meantime, the Community will be here for you.
So why does every other media player I use work as expected with swiping?
Eg Pocket Casts and even video players such as netflix, disney etc ... or local media players such as poweramp
Are you able to reproduce the behaviour your app exhibits on our devices? or are you just looking for anything that makes it not your issue?
Hey there,
Thanks for the device setup information.
We've relayed the data to our tech team for further investigation.
We'll let you know once an update on the matter is available.
Cheers!
I have ended my Spotify subscription took a 4 month free trial from Amazon Prime Music and guess what the app works perfectly it swipes, no issues, I said it before Spotify either can't fix the issue or don't find it important enough
Oh they absolutely can fix it and should be fairly straightforward it's just they are not bothered.
3+ months on now, Spotify - any update? It's still such a pain in the ass.
Spotify 8.7.44.968
Pocophone F1
MIUI 12.0.3 (Android 10)
And the bug is still appearing.
Really, really annoying.
Another update rolls out and another one where it is not fixed to the surprise of no one. LOL.
Xiaomi 12
MIUI 13 (Android 12)
Same problem, really annoying...
Another Spotify update and the bug isn't fixed yet. 8.7.48.1062 version just came out and it's the same as before. Come on guys, there are a lot of people with this problem and Spotify team is just gonna ignore this? Please fix it, it's so annoying.
Any progress on this one Spotify?
Wow, didn't realize it was a massive bug. I've been having this issue for a few months now and it's been driving me crazy. I cleared the cache, tried logging out/in, uninstalled the spotify app, and the screen media controls persisted. As mentioned already, only way to get them to go away is to quit the app or restart the phone.
Spotify - this is super annoying. I'm already on the edge of moving to another music app cause your app keeps deleting my offline playlists.
It seems you dont Care at all about happy users ;( Cause nothing happens do this annoying pain awful bug
Another update. Not fixed. Absolutely farcical how this is basic functionality is still broken.
It's absolutely unbelievable. One update after another and we're still invisible. I don't know how many people are complaining about this on this particular post but I'm sure we're a lot, and this isn't even counting the ones that have the particular issue but didn't reply here. If only this bug happened to one of the devs so they can see it by themselves and then fix it. I'm definitely not using 10% of what I used to use before the bug happened. If it keeps unnoticed I'll probably quit it once and for all. I'm sure I'm not the only one that is extremely annoyed at this. Please Spotify, it can't be that big of a deal, just fix it.
Newest beta
8.7.56.1
Still bug appearing and Still annoying how hard should it bee to Fix it, this is a joke...
It should be really be trivial to fix. I have zero doubt whatsoever it well known to the dev team and to Spotify. Part of me thinks it's a deliberate to have the bug in place to make it harder for people to close their app. Still a bug nonetheless and apps can't go around making themselves hard to close and not conforming to the OS standards.
Is there any other place we could escalate this issue to? I feel the forums are of no use at all when it comes to fixes on the devs side. If only the moderators would be transparent about this matter; "sorry guys, the ETA for a fix is in a couple of months" or "guys, we are working on this but it proved more difficult to tackle than we thought". I would be happy even with answers like these, because you feel supported as a customer. But there is no engagement whatsoever from the Spotify teams, we are in the dark.
If anybody knows any other place we could voice this, even escalate and skip levels, please let us know.
Media, Network newspaper ? Article or element in THE news criticism and big bug 😃
Four months now and Spotify still giving the run-around. Meanwhile I can email most other app devs and at least they'll say they realise what the problem is. "Give us more info and we'll solve it!" Yeah, right. Spotify has been ignoring community forum for years wt this point, removing favourite features, changing stuff that was fine, putting in stuff nobody wanted. Still haven't fixed their shuffle problem where the app shuffles only a section of your playlist before restarting.
Time to go boys, time to go.
There is more than a handful of us now commenting on this thread who have a similar mindset about this issue,
We all need to come to a conclusion here, i will be clear than i am not necessarily biased toward Android over iOS, however I have preferred it over the years after having both for its customisation that iOS hasn't really had to suit me. Unfortunately, my experience with this inconvenience has led me to believe that Apple users are always going to get the better end of the support system. There is a far easier market in the Apple world to tap into for its streamline ability from Spotifys perspective.
Spotify Developers would be well aware of this issue, whether it is a case of refusal to admit that they can't find a solution or don't know how to fix it is one thing, but having this issue on an Android device is not going to have the same urgency as what an iOS bug would.
This poses the question that most of us have already asked;
If Soundcloud and YouTube can retain a user interface that is streamlined across all versions of Android OS with multiple brands, why can't Spotify?
I hope the Spotify Moderators realise that most of us on Android have had premium subscriptions for 5+ years, it's only going to dissatisfy your longest customers, unless all you are interested in are the newest ones signing up for premium that don't know any different.
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
