My Question or Issue

Recently, I have been unable to swipe away the Spotify controls notification once I'm done listening. It'll just move over to show the notifications options button. The only way to get rid of the controls notification is to close the app or let Android put the app to sleep after 10-30 mins. This is very annoying as with the Android 11 update, I can only see one notification on my lock screen at a time, and Spotify always takes priority, even if I'm not listening to anything. I have to unlock my phone, scroll over on the multitasking menu, and close the app to dismiss the notification.

Every music app I use either lets me swipe away the controls notification, or gives me the option to close it from the notification. I feel like this must be a bug, but can't resolve the issue or find anyone else with the problem. I've tried deleting cache/data, uninstalling and reinstalling, changing various notification options, but nothing helps.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community.

In order to check this further, could your send us the make/model, exact OS version and Spotify version installed? Additionally, let us know if you already tried the steps suggested on the first page of this thread (mine included),

Lastly, tell us what other steps you've followed so far (if applicable).

Make/Model: Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G

OS: MIUI Global 13.0.2

Spotify version: 8.7.36.923

Tried all the steps recommended and even more.

This is not a matter of users trying to find a "workaround"; this is something that was working fine/present in previous versions and for some reason got removed.

I am pretty sure that if I install an apk from a 2021 Spotify version, the notification player will be able to get closed just fine.

In fact, I might do that to solve this matter for good.

You all keep asking us the steps we've taken...
Simply put if you have any connection to making technical adjustments to the app then its as simple as putting an "x" at the top right hand corner of the notification tab
You all had it in the past.
There are a plethora of apps that I use that still offer that option currently.
It's so simple and straight forward.
You all keep asking us what have we done.
The answer is something you all have removed and we want it back and you all keep giving the run around.
So annoying. Just fix it or let us know that is something you all aren't going back to.

Make/Model: Xiaomi Mi9T

OS: MIUI 12.0.7

Spotify: 8.7.42.943

Please fix.

LG Velvet

OS: Android 12

Spotify version: 8.7.42.943

Tried everything that has been suggested throughout this months old thread.

If you took the time to read through the thread, you'd see a wide variety of phones & systems; you'd see several people confirming that all of the potential fixes, at best, only work once; you'd see suggestions for settings changes that not everyone has a setting for; and you'd see that it's clearly an issue with the app itself.  This comes off as a lip service response, only given out because the thread hasn't died.

Sorry but this again is a nonsense response giving people the run around. It's a months old issue plainly obvious to anyone using the app on Android. I do not believe for a second the Devs are not aware of the issue at this point it has been well flagged at this stage.

Simple put, stop/pause your music, swipe away the media control, lock your phone and unlock again and the media controls are back. Wrong behaviour that does not happen with YT Music or YouTube, SoundCloud or any other media application and a wrong behaviour that has been introduced in the past few months. It cannot be stated any more clearly that is a bug within the application so please refrain from asking people to do nonsense steps and own the issue and have the Devs fix it. Thank you.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your replies and for adding more details about it.

We'll check this with the right team. For this reason, please send us the exact Spotify version installed on your phone (if applicable) and/or the make/model and exact OS version currently installed on the device (if applicable).

Lastly, tell us what steps you've followed so far (to solve this issue), and let us know if this started to happen after any Spotify or OS version update.

We'll keep the volume down until we hear back from you.

There has not been an OS update at least for me, it was working perfectly,  up to January, it was an update released by Spotify I believe this  started sometime in January   , I'm using the latest  version of Spotify , and running 10.1 on my phone,  One Plus 5T

I remember removing Spotify rebooted and reinstalled it then I  removed and enabled notifications, now interesting when you do that it works , then after it does not, so that's interesting , definitely points towards the app,  regarding notifications , all my other apps work fine I did have You Tube Music no issues, also tried Amazon Music no issues,

Spotify version: 8.7.42.943, the most recent available

All other info has previously been posted in the thread.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for providing the requested info.

We've forwarded this to our internal teams who'll investigate further. As soon as there are any updates, rest assured we'll keep you posted here.

Cheers!

I have decided to end my Spotify subscription, it was getting ridiculous to reboot the phone to shut down the Spotify , there has been no positive solution, all us with this issue have submitted everything that has been requested,  still no solution, if you're going to charge me £9.99 each month  I   least expect a App that works properly, I never asked for a compensation, but even a free month would of been something to show you understand the frustration this issue is,   I've been with Spotify close to 7 years,  never had any issues,  but this has been so annoying and I have tried everything I am in IT, not a programmer but I have experienced working with  Developers  testing apps, there is definitely something going on with the app,  common sense would be to look at the code of the app back in December compare it to the present day, see what changes have been made, what is different , I keep monitoring it, but right now , I moving on hope your sort it Spotify,

Hey folks,

Thank you for reporting this issue to us.

We just wanted to let you know that the issue was addressed in the recently released update.

Could you confirm if the issue still happens after updating the app to its latest version?

If the issue persists, include in your next response the Spotify version you’re currently running.

We’ll be on the lookout.

New beta version same here so annoying cheers

Model: OnePlus6

OS: Oxygen 9.0.8

Spotify version: 8.7.44.968

Updated Spotify last night.

The "unswipeable bug" is stil there.

Hello!

The issue still persists, even with the latest Spotify version (8.7.44.968). Come on guys, it's not like it's not solvable. Just compare the current version with the one from December or January and see what's different. We have been requesting this fix for months, please help us.

Hello,

Still happening with the latest version (8.7.44.968). I've resorted to shutting down all Spotify notifications but that means I have to go to the app every time I want to change a song or pause it... It's so annoying! Please fix it!!!

And before you ask, I'm running MIUI Global 13.0.6 in a Mi 10T Pro 5G.

Issue still there after updating to version 8.7.44.968

This issue has absolutely NOT been addressed in the most recent update. If this is the information that has been relayed down to a moderator to post on a public forum this really is amateur hour stuff from Spotify.

This is basic behaviour the application is falling down on here and I have no doubt the Dev team are 1) are well aware it is occurring and 2) well aware it was NOT addressed in the most recent release.

Please, yet again, as a matter of urgency please highlight that this issue is not addressed and that a fix should be pushed ASAP.  Thank you.

Running 8.7.44.968 on Google Pixel 6 with Android 12.
