Pixel 9 XL / Android - Spotify not showing Google maps

I know there is a few forums about similar issues but I have tried everything and nothing is working. When using Google maps for driving, I usually have Spotify at the bottom similar to a screen shot attached (screen shot found on Google). But I currently have nothing unless I opt for the media play back controls which I'm not a fan of. The media play back interface isn't great and unlike the standard interface it doesn't take you to the playlist when you press the song. 

I have tried updating Spotify and maps. Uninstalling both apps. Disconnecting Google assistant. Disconnecting Google using Spotify in my browser. Turning phone on and off. Nothing has helped. I just want it back to the way it was - it's been like this for around a week now

Looks like the screenshot failed to attach. Would you mind adding it again so we can get a clear view of how things look on your end?

If possible, it's worth testing with another mobile device (a friend's or a relative's would do) to see if the same behavior would occur there.
