My Question or Issue

Hey all, how do I play audio files that are stored on my NAS (connected to my home network) from the Android app?  I googled a bit but haven't figured out how to do this yet.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Hey @NceRehER,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Community.

In order for local files to be synched to the app on mobile, they have to be first imported on a desktop device on the same network. You can find detailed instructions on how to do this here. Keep in mind that the files have to be in one of the supported formats and obtained from an official source.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks, does imported mean the files will be copied to the desktop computer or just linked/referenced?  I suspect copied as I followed these steps and my computer crashed soon after adding my NAS as a source, the HDD activity light was lit solid.

Hey @NceRehER,

Thanks for getting back to us 🙂

It's a good idea to save the files of the songs on the PC and then to add them to a playlist. After that you can sync up your devices with the steps @Mihail mentioned.

So is it possible to add my NAS as a source without the files being stored on my computer?  This essentially means I have to create a copy of all my files on my computer (of which I have many GB's) just so spotify can play them?  Thanks for the help!

Hey @NceRehER,

Thanks for getting back to us 🙂

The import of local files from a third-device that is not directly the one establishing the connection is not supported so we can't guarantee that it will work.

In this case it's a good idea to have the files stored locally on the PC and then to initiate the transfer to the phone.
