My Question or Issue
I am not able to like/unlike, rewind, pause, or skip forward using the player controls that popup in the my notifications, example shown the image, whenever I tap them nothing happens. The only part that works is that if I already have a song playing I'm able to use the seek bar and drag to go to the part of the song I want. Also note that the player controls work when my phone is in the lock screen, this only happens when my phone is unlocked in the notification menu
.
This is really frustrating as I use this feature all the time, I used to use Spotify heavily for years and everything worked fine on the exact same phone I have now but I took a break and swapped to YT Music about a year ago and now that I'm back to Spotify this basic feature isn't working properly anymore.
My app is up to date, I've cleared cache, restarted my phone, uninstalled and reinstalled, done the clean reinstall method, yet this issue still persists. Wondering if anyone else has any suggestions? This is kinda a deal breaker if I cant get it to work
Hi there, @STitanP,
Welcome to the Spotify Community!
Could you head to your Samsung's settings > Apps > Spotify > Notifications > Notification categories and make sure everything's toggled on?
I also see you're listening through your Bluetooth earbuds: do the notification controls work properly when you're playing directly on your phone's speakers? In case your earbuds have buttons/controls to change the current track, check if those work normally as well.
Let us know how it goes 👍
Hello,
All the options in there were toggled on
The notification controls still do not work when I try them playing through my phone or my phones speakers
And yes my bluetooth earbuds do have pinch controls (single pinch to pause/play, double pinch to skip forward, triple pinch to go rewind) and I have confirmed that these all work, its only the notification controls that don't
Thanks for the reply, @STitanP!
Did you notice this behavior after a recent update to Spotify or your OS/UI? If you're using a theme/dark mode/custom launcher for your phone, try turning them it temporarily to see if that makes a difference.
Keep us posted.
The issue is that I just recently started using Spotify again, like I said earlier I was using YT music for a year, so I can't really diagnose if the issue is actually an OS/UI issue since its been such a long time from the last time I used Spotify
I do use Dark Mode on my phone but I disabled it and the issue still occurs
Thanks for testing, @STitanP 👍
I'm also running Android 11 on my ASUS ROG Phone 5, but everything works fine on my end. Just to confirm, have you checked if podcast episodes exhibit the same behavior?
Also, do you have another mobile device you can test with? If possible, ask someone (a friend or a relative) to log in to their account on your Samsung to see if they'd experience the same thing.
We'll be on the lookout for you reply.
