Playing without demand

Hi. When I connect a Bluetooth Audio device to my phone, Spotify just starts playing (sometimes!!). I don't use Spotify as my primary music app so I've uninstalled it for the time being; but it would start playing as I started the car (Bluetooth stereo); it would start playing after a call had finished; and it would sometimes start playing as I enabled my headset at the gym.

What gives? How do I stop it doing this and taking over playback from my default player?
