Playlist not working

Just started premium trial. I really like the idea of Spotify but why call it a playlist if it doesn't play in order I select? Is there some way to specify a song order of play that I'm missing? Also if I create a playlist it plays the first song then jumps to something random I've played previously. I would like to be able to create a playlist and have it play in the order I selected or at least play the songs I selected.
