My Question or Issue
After updating to the latest version of the Android app, playlists that are organized inside folders no longer appear in the add-to-playlist menu (the menu that appears when you tap ‘Add to other playlist’). At the top of the menu, it shows the playlists the song is in, but on Android, it no longer shows any playlist that is within a folder. These playlists do display correctly on desktop. If you search for a playlist that’s in a folder, though, it also does appear and correctly shows the tick symbol if the song is in the playlist.

Example: the song ARTIFICIAL SUICIDE by Bad Omens is in my playlists ‘alt-hardcore’ and ‘metalcore’, which are both inside folders. It’s also in ‘metal’, a playlist that’s not in a folder. If I open the add-to-playlist menu on the song, I only see the ‘metal’ playlist on mobile – but on desktop, I see all of them as expected.

I’ve verified that this behaviour across multiple songs. The issue consistently affects any playlist that is in a folder. If a playlist is in a folder, it does not appear in the mobile app when you’re in the add-to-playlist menu.

This only started happening after updating to the latest Spotify verison, the same update that fixed the add-to-playlist search field not working. While that has been fixed, this new issue has appeared that wasn’t there before.

I’ve tried clearing the cache and rebooting my phone but to no avail.

I'm experiencing the same bug on 9.0.96.826. For example, the song in the image is part of multiple playlists, most of them deeply nested within folders.

Also, is the "add-to-playlist" menu supposed to be half-collapsed as depicted in the attached image?

Thanks for the details, @nightwing2209! I've forwarded them to the team investigating this.

As for the "Add to playlist" menu's state, this seems to be a feature our tech folks are trying out for some users. The menu may default to a non-expanded view, but you can manually expand it fully by swiping up.

Cheers 🤘

@Yordan While this isn’t relevant to the original topic, I do want to chime in that the add-to-playlist menu does default to the non-expanded for me as well, and I’m not a fan of it, as it requires an extra swipe every time you want to add a song to/remove a song from a playlist, taking more time and effort. I hope that the non-expanded view can be removed or an option can be added to default to the expanded view.

When adding songs to playlists using the plus symbol, it should display the playlists that the song is already in FIRST on the list, above folders. Currently, if you have playlist folders, you have to open each individual folder in order to see which playlists the song is already in. This wasn't the case until the most recent update, and is a very annoying and time consuming change.

I just want to echo the same problem and annoyance of having this change made. I have hundreds of playlists. It's making it annoying to keep track of what's in what and also trying to add the same song to multiple playlists is more tiresome and frustrating.

Agreed. I have to open Spotify on my PC to do any real organization of my music. It’s quite frustrating. We went from the search field not working to most playlists being completely hidden, assuming you’re someone who uses folders, which is an absolutely must-have feature for me.

At least the previous issue with the search field had a simple workaround. It’s probably going to take the small indie team that is Spotify several weeks to fix this issue, too. I don’t want to be too pessimistic and rude, but Spotify made €15.6 billion in revenue last year: they should have enough resources to fix breaking issues such as this one far more quickly. I’m seriously considering making the switch over to Deezer or Tidal at this point.

Came here after another tread was tagged as resolved, because after massive userfeedback spotify reverted some unwanted ui change for mobile devices in the playlist adding. One of the annonying changes was removal of the “save “ button, replaced by a mini fan, you had to slide down to save songs added, but it was annoying, and not intuitive. So…. After many mods dropping by the tread suggesting to reinstall app, it was finally recognised as some ui update, and was also reverted… but this changing back only lasted a couble of days, before to my grudge, the save button was removed once again. And still is not there. Now i cant even use the mini fan to slide/save more then once, because it does not work after that. I cant understand why the quality control even allowed this change to go forth in the first place, but letting it happen yet again, is mindboggeling. This has been an issue for quite some time now, and after 7 years of faithfull service i am looking for switching platform, becauce of playlist ui change and how its affecting my experience. I am very disapointed in this, and i think whoever made a decision to play around with something so integral is not suited for taking such decisions. I am on ios latest update, on phone. It also happens on ipad. FIX IT PLEASE

Same issue here

Same issue here. So annoying. I can't remember any given day in the last 5 years I've been using Spotify premium where there was NOT a bug of some sort. Fix this already!

Just to add, it's also happening on Android.

I'm on Android — this began with the 9.0.96.826 update 2-3 days ago. I have dozens of playlists, and they're all inside at least one layer of folders 😔

- I've cleared cache, re-logged in, and reinstalled.

- It's every track on mobile. As OP said, PC is fine.

Bring fullscreen back! Or make it an option.. the non-expanded view is not fun 😑

*Update 9.0.98.1187 has *not fixed anything 🙃

Yordan,

That is so stupid. I have the same issue. Revert immediately. Why would I want to manually drag up every time? Just show the whole thing like normal!

I agree. Garbage company. 😞 They should fix the playlist UI.

The complete mystery is, that spotify fixed it, atleast the “save” button was restored, to save songs when picking a playlist, but after 3 days aprox it disappeared again.. and we get no explanation.

Floura, I have my save button. Do you have an image to show? I am looking at my android now.

Save button missing. Its just not there

Oh, you got to hit the + button to the right, in the circle. That adds it to a playlist. It will then turn to a green check when you have it ready to add. Then you back out of the UI and it saves the changes. It's been like that for a while now. Many months.

Is this still going to be fixed? I am using an August build and scared to update lol
