Hello World,
i got a problem with my ace. Since yesterday, when the new version of spotify was available, my ace won´t install the new one. It says that my device is not compatible for this version of spotify. Will there be a fix or do i have to buy a new cellphone?
Solved! Go to Solution.
I purchased Premium a couple of days ago, just because i wanted to use Spotify on my Galaxy ace, and now you do this stupid move?
I want a god darn refund.
If you posters here think it is just spotify you are all wrong doing a quick search of armv6 processing devices being phased out say it all.
Apple is phasing out those same devices as well.

If spotify intends to be able to provide services for armv7 processors while the 6's are being phased out, when everyone knows the mob goes wild first for the latest and greatest gear, what is a company to do to stay ahead of the changes? The people that still want to run older phased out systems, or what is coming next to stay competitive?
Edited to add a list of samsung devices supporting armv7 processors.

Honestly though, did they even tell us older mobile user that we were going to be unable to use Spotify anymore?

I really don't give a darn what others do. We should have been informed about their intentions early enough so that we wouldn't renew our subscription if we wouldn't buy a new device.
€7 might not sound too much but it's a very considerable amount of money if only 1.000 people are using armv6 based devices. I think all of you guys using armv7 based devices now, should be prepared for something similar when your time comes.
I think it is all highly part of this. Think, google is promoting google play through it's supported android devices. Apple when it had the chance chose to go the pandora radio route instead of a fully streaming music service from it's extensive music catalogue access. But now Spotify can become a major sponsor of Apply devices in the future just as google play is going to be the same for android. How likely can spotify really compete with google android on those devices and with their own streaming services too now? Considering what maybe 1 or 2 more years is all that is left of the older armv6 devices anyway? Tech and devices keep changing every 2 years. The sooner those devices become obsolete the quicker the newer faster tablets and devices that those prices will drop. I can almost see a future where it might actually be possible for the Beatles material to make onto the spotify service through a partnership with Apple and spotify promoting each other. Afterall the streaming service that gets access to the fab 4 will make huge news for both apple and spotify.
And if you are just using the permium spotify service on said devices, and not on your own home computers. I would think a refund would be easy to get if it is that bothersome.
well....goodbye spotify, hello google music
Back and forth on Twitter:
"Can you confirm that you are not supporting armv6 phones and that if I purchase an armv7 it will work again? Needs Clarified"
"Yep, that's right. If you have an ARMv7 device, you'll be able to download the Spotify app from Google Play /A"
And then they link to this thread as the answer http://spoti.fi/SUfA14
luciantenebrae, here's why you're wrong:
A) Apple just bought Beats, which has its own streaming service. So this clearly has nothing to do with Apple devices.
B) They released this update as a mandatory fix to a "hack" (I think we need quotes for this now, since I find the story highly suspect) that affected one user. Now, I think they may have had ulterior motives to do this, since they can't make timely updates to save their lives, but it had nothing to do with Apple.
Now, the reason transparency is important: This has to have all of us asking "when is Spotify going to arbitrarily remove support for my phone without warning?" Please, someone ask them that on Twitter.
I've been waiting for Spotify's poor development and awful customer service to come to a head and lead to a user revolt, demanding better. I hope this is that time. Press the issue everybody! Get Android blogs to cover this and force them to make an actual response.
So, I´m premium Member for a year now. I just became premium because of hearing music on my portable. Now I´m forced to buy a new cellphone or quit my contract? What do you think I`m going to do....?
Wow, that's really bad. I hope you guys get refunds for your premium subscriptions.
Just a few thoughts about this:
1) There seems to be some confusion about the security problem: There was a security breach at Spotify not just one single user. They don't want to say what exactly was compromised, but it has to be something very essential to the security of the app. My guess is that it has to do with the encryption of the cached files because we are forced to redownload them. But that's just speculation.
2) Did you guys get the update that introduced the black design? It's pretty common on Android that older devices don't receive the newest app version at some point: Google Play doesn't show you the update and you can continue to use the old version without any problems.
In this case it is not possible to continue to use the old Spotify app anymore because of 1). That puts both you and Spotify in a bad position. You can't use the service you paid for anymore and Spotify can't relaease a quick fix, because they have developed the black design app for newer devices.
Wow, this is very disappointing. Especially since I bought a second-hand armv6 phone two days ago that was supposed to be used for Spotify only. Thanks Spotify.
O.k you win but the removal of app from devices or being able to function has never been all that forth coming, I think the only big annoucement I can remember was the older mac machines not being able to use the newer apps.
And note I just seen the beats announcement must have been on going thing last couple of days and announced, so I missed the news on that. My bad.
I am not entirely sure even my Samsung Blu Ray player which is only 2 years old is even able to use the new spotify app now through the smart hub, as I have not even checked in the last 6 months, might still have the wrong firmware for the newer app now. Those apps come and go without any notices as well, even with a firmware update they sometimes never come back.
I guess I just have grown accustomed to tech changing so fast within a 2 year time frame that when something is no longer supported I don't get upset, I just change up and move on lifes to short to fret over it. I have an old Win XP box I don't touch now since I moved into Win7 2 and half years ago it was to old and slow, and long over due for the recycle heep over 10 years and counting. In another 4 or 5 years I will have to bite the buller and say well to whatever thing Windows puts out, or go in another direction altogther.
Can we send a bill to Spotify, to make Spotify work again? I mean if folks purchase new phone as replace for working one!
Send bill to Spotify. Maybe they pay it? Otherwise they should fix app to work with every Android in this little world.
😞 Bye Premium 😞
That can't be true!

Hey all,
We can no longer support some older devices, mostly running ARMv5 and ARMv6 based processors.
We know that means some of you will no longer have access to Spotify, and we're truly sorry about that, but we wouldn't do it unless it was completely necessary. And of course Spotify is still accessible on lots of other Android devices and other platforms.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Ahem! Excuse me, but that is NOT solved and it certainly isn't a SOLUTION. Everything was working fine and suddenly, because of one individual, the rest of us with this particular phone are now suffering. How about you just allow us to use the old app that was working fine until a few hours ago when the message the app needed updating screwed everything up? The fact that I can't even listen to my playlist I had synced let alone stream when I am out and about is not exactly good customer service for us paying customers.
