My Question or Issue

Every time I start up my Spotify app and select a song to play, shuffle automatically turns on. This is especially annoying when I am trying to listen to an album all the way through or listen to a playlist I have created. I do not like having to fumble with my phone while I am driving as it is dangerous. Any help with this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Hey again @salicide!

Thanks for the provided feedback.
Depending on your phone, you should be able to open Spotify from the Alarm settings by tapping the album or playlist / the three dots next to it / anywhere else on the screen.
When the app is open you should be able to enable/disable Shuffle and the setting should remain unchanged after the alarm rings.

Let us know how it goes!

Hi Vasil!

Here is a video where I chose liked songs as a playlist for my alarm, opened with three dot spotify and checked that shuffle is off and after alarm went on - shuffle turned on.

Hey @NickOhoiko,

Thanks for showing us how it works on your end!
Unfortunately, this couldn't be reproduced on ours, so I'd suggest we try some troubleshooting 🙂

If you don't mind, we'd like you to perform a complete clean reinstall of the app, following these steps.
Remove the app, delete all present alarms, reinstall the app and check if the behaviour of Shuffle changes.

Thanks!
We'll be on the lookout for your response.

Hi Vasil.

Did all that, issue remained☹️

In any case, additional info:
Pixel 6, Android 12. Build SQ3A.220605.009.B1
Spotify version: 8.7.44.968
Android clock version: 7.2

Hey @NickOhoiko,

Thanks for replying in this thread and keeping us posted 🙂

We can confirm that this is expected behavior. When you select your Liked Songs playlist, or any other playlist as the alarm sound, it'll shuffle and play a different song every time the alarm goes off. Due to this, the shuffle option stays enabled in the app when you open it.

We appreciate your feedback. We know you’d like to make this an opportunity for Spotify to become an incredible app. We’ll make sure to pass your comments onto the right team, as we always strive to improve your experience.

We'll be here if anything else comes up. Once again, thanks for the feedback

This is not the expected behavior by the users. This is incredibly frustrating. Messing up my persistent explicit app settings with alarm clock song is just ridiculous. I'll look for other music app to replace spotify if you don't fix it.

I'm sorry, Novy, but evidently the current behavior is not expected by all the users in this thread.

It is expected that the playlist is shuffled *only for the alarm*.

It is not expected that the shuffle setting stays on for the other interactions of the user with the Spotify app.

No matter how many times I turn shuffle off, roughly every day or so I will click the first track in an album (which I want to listen to in order) and the shuffle icon will light up.
I left Spotify for Deezer because this was really bothering me, and I thought it was a bug. I've come back because of an offer, and hoped a clean reinstall (I followed the guide from Spotify's site), and it seems to be doing it again.
When I untoggle shuffle it remains that way for roughly a day or so, but ALWAYS comes back, and I NEVER want to listen to anything on shuffle. Can someone confirm whether this is intended functionality of the app before I leave again?

I have to say I am absolutely obsessed with the fact my post has been moved into a thread that I have already read while trying to work out how to make this ghastly POS app actually do what it is meant to do. Nothing like making your users work for you is there. Is there any way I can submit an invoice to you for all the time I've spent trying to get this to stop?

Hello, so I have the same problem but i don't have any Lamar set up with my songs, when I log into my computer to turn shuffle off it works but only temporarily while I'm using the computer as the output device. When I stop using my computer as the output device and the icon to toggle shuffle on and off is like frozen and doesn't let my change it until I press something else and it disappears from my screen, I've also tried turning autoplay off but it doesn't work. So i wonder if there is any way I could fix that.(If using a type of phone is also a part of the problem then I have an iPhone 12 if that's related by any chance)

I'm having the same issue described here. Shuffle keeps turning on when I use a song as an alarm. I like this function, I don't usually want to shuffle anything. It's very irritating. I'd like if Spotify could take some of the money they've made off me as a premium subscriber or some of the money they've made off me as an artist, or both, and fix the issue.

I have the same issue and I don’t have any alarm connected to Spotify.
Is there another solution to it, or a way to set to default the shuffle to be off every time I open the app?

So, a couple years out from the original post, this is clearly still an issue. The official suggestions are ridiculous, and the idea that "we automatically turn on shuffle when you turn it off" is "expected behavior" is downright offensive.

I love the service, but the app is a disaster, and the sorry excuse for "customer service" is worse.

Add to this being *repeatedly* asked for feedback while trying to read (and then write) this, and I find myself wishing I was dealing with a company who treated their customers better. Like Boeing. If I got sucked out of a plane mid-flight, at least I wouldn't be asked to fill out fifteen surveys as I screamed in terror on the way down, being told the whole time how valued I was.

Do better.

Atrocious customer service in this thread. This has been a thorn in my side for years. Saying this is "expected behavior" is beyond the pale.
