Only the 10,000 most recently saved tracks are playing in Liked Songs

Only the 10,000 most recently saved tracks are playing in Liked Songs

Hi people. Since a few days I have noticed that a lot of my liked songs list does not play anymore. Today I noticed that this is the case for all songs except for the 10,000 most recent songs I added. This means that about 64,000 songs in my list WILL NOT PLAY. If I add these songs to their own list, or play them through the artist page, everything is fine. This seems to happen regardless of the device I try it on, both my laptop and my phone. I know there used to be a limit of 10,000 years ago, but I am pretty sure it was working with all songs just days ago. Is anyone experiencing the same issue (also including a very slow app)? Is this known already at Spotify? If I can't listen to most of my liked songs I might need to go and find a different solution.

Hey there @jorisvandedonk,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

Such behavior might be caused by large libraries. When you saved a high number of playlists/songs per playlist in your library, you should consider that the app's performance can be affected.

Remember, as per this moment, there’s a suggested 10,000 song limit per playlist; if you go over that, we cannot guarantee the app will work properly. We’d suggest you split up your Liked Songs playlist into smaller ones, or maybe deleting any playlists you don’t listen to anymore.

We hope you found this helpful. We're always here to help.

The liked songs list does not have such limit, in 2020 that limit got lifted. It used to work fine up until a few days ago, so it must have something to do with a recent update and not the size of the liked songs list, as this does not have a set limit.

Hi @AlejaR,

I have just found out, by using Spotify in an older version on my parents' computer, that the version was indeed the issue. Their Spotify on version 1.2.84.476 played my liked songs list just fine, no issue with only a limited amount of songs playing. When I updated to 1.2.85.519 I saw the same behavior as on my other machines: only the 10,000 most recent songs could play. This confirms my suspicion that a recent change has (probably erroneously) removed this capacity. I have downgraded on my laptop and that seems to work, I don't think this is possible on my iPhone. So for any others with large liked songs lists, DO NOT UPDATE YET! I hope this gets fixed in the (near) future.

Hey @jorisvandedonk,

Thanks for your reply!

We don't recommend using older versions as they aren't up-to-date with all the latest security patches, but since the issue you're experiencing does get fixed with installing an older one, we wanted to thank you for testing this and for the feedback! This should hopefully get fixed soon on a newer version as well.

Something else we wanted to mention again is that this amount of liked songs is known to cause some issues from time to time even if there is no hard limit anymore and we would recommend splitting your playlist up into smaller ones as @AlejaR already suggested.

Can confirm that as of today I noticed that I am also unable to listen any songs past the 10,000 limit on my spotifiy playlist (25,000 songs total). Had no issues before this (other than a bit of lag) so I'm really hoping this gets fixed soon. If it doesn't I might have to cancel my sub and try to find another platform since I prefer large variety playlists on shuffle.

EDIT: I've tried reinstalling, but on both mobile and on PC is simply does not play any songs past the 10,000 mark. PC gives an error "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it." But only for the songs past the 10,000 mark, all the others before that work fine. Mobile doesn't give an error it just won't play any of those songs. If I remove the older songs and put them back in the playlist they work, so it's clear that it's an issue with the limit of the songs and not anything else.

Really hoping this gets fixed soon.

My Question or Issue

When i go to add or remove a song from a playlist, it shows that I only have 10,000 songs liked. This is not reflected in the number shown when I open up my liked songs playlist, it shows 21,575. When I try to remove a song from my liked songs on my phone, it will say that it's been removed but the check mark won't go away and I can still find it in the liked songs playlist. However, when I remove the song on my computer, it gets deleted from the liked songs playlist on my computer and phone, and the number will change accordingly on my phone. I have tried clearing cache, offloading and deleting the app, signing out, and turning off my phone, and nothing has been able to solve this. I also haven't seen any other reports about this by other users so I am in need of some guidance. This bug has bothered me enough that I've started a free trial with Apple music and migrated my library there because at this point the app is unusable, and I only listen to music on my phone.

I'm having this same issue, and I also can't remove any songs from my liked songs list on my phone.

Hey @itsdaniellayal1, welcome to the Spotify Community! 🎵

There are a few things that you could try:

  1. Compare your liked songs count on the iPhone app vs the Web Player. Do the numbers match?
  2. Try removing a song from your liked songs playlist on the Web Player and see what happens.
  3. Try a different mobile device performing the same actions. This will help us figure out if the problem is device specific.
  4. Head over to account.spotify.com, log inand scroll down to click Sign out everywhere. This will force a library re-sync that could fix the problem.

Keep me posted. 🙂

I am having the same problem, this is a subscription ender if I can't get more than 10,000 songs on my liked list

I'm having a similar issue. My Liked Songs playlist showed 13,047. When I went to add an album, it only added one track. I have also noticed that albums that I know I have added to my Liked Songs weren't showing up on the playlist. Looks like it's 2020 all over again…😥

Original poster here. For a few months this problem was solved, but apparently after an automatic update it broke again. I have done the same thing I did before: install older versions to see where Spotify got broken. The last working version is 1.2.87.415 (as far as I can see this is the version on the 15th of april). It broke again at version 1.2.88.464 (17th of april). Not only do songs after the 10,000 mark not play again, it is also paired with other issues as mentioned by other users above and EXTREME slowness. Last time when I mentioned the issues it was solved relatively quickly, so let's hope Spotify actually picks up the issues again so it works like it should.

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my liked songs. I have way more than 10,000 liked songs, but I try to listen to them, only the last 10,000 added works. All the older entries won't work and show the same error message - Spotify can't play this right now.

It's like there was a 10000 limit on my liked songs, like back in 2020.

I tried to clear the cache, to reinstall the app, but still the same problem. The problem also show up on iPhone app and web player, so it doesn't seem related to my computer. It seems to be a problem with my account, even tho it's up to date.

Thanks for reading, I really hope someone can help me.

Experiencing exactly same/similar issue, but also playing any of the last songs in the list and Spotify is lagging like crazy. On desktop it took maybe 30seconds to start playing a song, and from iphone it took maybe 2 minutes. In other words the problem is both on desktop and on iphone, at least in my case.

Also, when opening the list at desktop version, it first report that it can not find the list, but waiting a few more seconds and it opens.
In iphone it now says whenever i add a song 10 000 songs in the liked playlist, even if I actually have 39k songs, I can see all songs but only press last songs.
The problem started 3-4 days ago I belive (today 14th may).
This is so frustrating, I really hope this problem will be fixed soon, I don't even know/manage to find out how to report directly to Spotify...

I use Spotify since 2021, and after 5 year journey in music world, i saved 28 603 tracks in my "Liked songs" playlist. Everything was fine, until may 2026, in may i stared to noticed that half of my liked songs (13 000+) is not playing, and even if i play in mix or click on them directly. After 9 999 tracks its only a picture, that i "have that tracks saved" in playlist but nothing plays.

My Question or Issue

How can i fix that problem, and chill with 100% of my "Liked songs"

Hey @Akuma276@Mrod84 , thanks for posting in the Community! 🎵

There are a few things that I'd recommend:

  • A clean-install of the Spotify app using this guide.
  • Try playing those specific songs from out of the liked songs playlist: another playlist, source album, etc. See if that works fine.
  • Do you have all of the liked songs offline downloaded?

If there is still a lag and it only occurs within the liked songs playlist, it could simply be about the number of songs. While there's no hard limit on the number of liked songs, a large list could cause app performance issues.

Let me know if you need anything else. 🙂

Thanks for the reply.
I've tried this without success. Also, considering it happened abruptly a few days ago and both in ios and windows desktop simultaneously, along with what we see in the app is different (suddenly is say 10 000 songs instead of full number, never did that before). This vm appears to me to be related to an update... I think this will ned some fix in an update to be honest...  Hope you can investigate a bit further, and thanks again..

My liked songs playlist has stopped at 10,000 songs and i had way more than 10,000 liked songs previously saved. It showed that I had more songs in the past and now it is only showing that the max for that playlist is 10,000

Unfortunately this is a recurring issue. It happened earlier this year, was fixed for a while, and now is broken again. I already saw multiple posts on this, including my own. The last working version is 1.2.87.415 (as far as I can see this is the version on the 15th of april). It broke again at version 1.2.88.464 (17th of april). After my original post on the 20th of march this year it was fixed, so I hope Spotify will fix it again.
