Sound Quality

I am switching from the soon to be defunct Zune subscription service to either spotify or rhapsody.  I really like the interface and selection on spotify but the sound quality on my HTC One M8 is so bad it's difficult to listen to it.  I am listening off-line and thought that would solve any issues I have with poor connection in my area.  Rhapsody sounds a lot better but their selection is not as good as Spotify's.  Is the sound better on an iPod touch?  I need to abandon my zune and the iPod touch looks like the only good option for an mp3 player.  I listen to music a lot when I don't have an internet connection so I need the off-line option.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In the spotify app you can choose in the settings the quality of offline and streaming track.
For example you can set offline tracks to be downloaded at best available quality which should be 320 kbps.
