Spotify app is just not working

Hi, god only knows how many times I've been trying to get help with this: the spotify app is just stops running as soon as I leave the app to do something else on my phone. Which means that I have to have spotify open constantly on my screen. This isn't an app it just turned my phone into a badly functioning mp3 player.  I've tried the clean un- and reinstall but it has changed nothing. Please help!
