Spotify causes significant battery drain on Pixel 8 Pro

Pixel 8 Pro, Android 14, Spotify Premium build 8.8.76.667, Sweden.

Brand new phone and first day of use, and installed the app earlier today.  Spotify has somehow managed to drain 38% (!) of battery with 4 minutes screen time and 4h 44 mins background activity: https://ibb.co/TrG4jW6. I'm unsure about the length of background activity, too, since I've only been listening to podcasts and some music for two hours tops before completely closing the app. No downloads of playlists or music, either. 

The phone was warm to the touch for several hours after installation. The temperature dropped immediately after disabling Spotify from being able to perform background tasks. 

In the "View by systems" tab in Systems > Battery > Battery usage, it's clear that the CPU has drained a majority of the battery (33% vs 13% for screen) since it was fully charged, even though I haven't been doing any CPU intensive tasks for any length of time. 

Super weird, and it's the only time this has happened on any of the smartphones I've had Spotify installed on over the years.

​After more than one year, 1 major OS update, and a brand new Pixel, I personally find it ridiculous that neither Spotify nor Google have fixed the problem. I've always been a satisfied Android and Spotify consumer, I think there is something funny in the fact that the cutting edge latest in-house smartphone from Google (worst purchase I ever made), and the world-class famous music app outside Cupertino grab have together managed to convince me to switch to Iphone and Apple music. To everyone in this forum I recommend that you stop wasting your money getting scammed and mocked by these 2 companies, and switch to some services provided by people working with professionality...

Pixel 8 pro and latest Spotify update. Just started having this problem after an update 3 days ago.

Same problem with pixel 8. Battery lasts less than a day with Spotify background on. Lasts more than a day without. This is ridiculous considering issue has been raised for more than a year now.

Coming back to this thread because it got better for a few weeks and then the most recent update made it worse than ever! Look at the difference in the amount of screen time & background between Spotify and Instagram, yet Spotify is still using more battery! The only thing I can figure out to do is turn off background permissions when I'm not using it. This is absolutely insane

Brand new Google Pixel 9 Pro. 

Major battery usage from Spotify - which also has to have background activity enabled in order for music to continue playing once the screen has locked. 

Never had this issue on Apple before with spotify. The battery drain on Google phones is a joke. 

Spotify, there's clear evidence in this thread alone that you have a problem on Google phones. What are you going to do about it?

My Question or Issue

I have had very high battery drain from CPU usage due to background Spotify usage on version 9.0.8.127 / over the past few days or week. Drained 41% of battery with 5 hr 43 mins background usage.
