Spotify continues playing when it shouldn't

Spotify seems to have stopped respecting android OS signals about when it should stop playing.  It no longer pauses when you unplug your headphones, start playing music in another app, etc.  This all used to work just fine, and all other apps on my phone have no issues doing this, but after a recent update spotify stopped behaving properly.
