I tried to use Spotify on a Kindle Fire HDX, and considering it's a tablet, I was hoping that I'd be able to use the free version of Spotify where I can play any track. Unfortunately, it's saying my Kindle Fire is a moble device and not a tablet, which of course is not the case. Is there something I can do to help Spotify recognize that the Kindle is a tablet, so I can stream on demand music?
Thank you!

Not that Spotify isn't guilty of dubious business practices in fraudulently advertising something they don't actually provide, and not that they shouldn't be held accountable to remedy it and compensate those affected... but until enough people have moved from disappointed to pissed off, and demanded rather than pleaded for correction, has anyone tried side-loading the straight Android version from, oh, say, GooglePlay? I find most apps are more up-to-date there than in Amazon's store... and they tend not to suffer from Amazon's "optimizing" for Kindle's offshoot version of the OS.
................................................................Follow-Up.....................................................................
Well... no dice with side-loading; unlike some items (The Infinite Black, for instance), the architecture between Android and Fire OS versions of Spotify must be identical, if a half-step behind in Fire's case. After transferring the backed-up APK from my Android phone to the Kindle Fire HD via PC, Easy Installer actually reported the APK as an update and attempted to install over the Amazon version that was present, rather than alongside it in parallel. The signatures differed so it balked and aborted the overwrite until I uninstalled the existing version first, then Easy Installer listed the APK as a lone program for install and carried it out without a hitch. The effort yielded no net gain, however, which was to be expected after Installer initially recognized the two as kin. It seems all that is left is to indeed proceed with the necessary nasty-grams to Spotify; there is no excuse for their blaming it on the screen. Hope some more of you will finally get your backs up over this and follow suit.
The Problem is still there on Kindle Fire HD 7" 1st generation, Version 1.2.0.534 installed via Sideloading. Please fix this annoying bug.
Update 1.3.0.423 didn't fix this. Come on...
Maybe it's better not to check the resolution of the device? Just use the device identifier...
The issue seems fixed now. Allowing the queuing if tracks and playing songs on demand. Finally!!
Spotty is only allowing shuffle play on my kindle fire hd 7 4th generation. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hmm. I thought this was fixed. Can you confirm the app version you are running?
Version 1.9.0.1273

Try a clean install, if that still fails then I recommend you contact Spotify Support using the form here.
You will get an automated reply at first, however if you need to chase them just reply to the email as it does get monitored.
I already tried reinstalling.
I sent them a support message.
I have a kindle fire HD. I recently updated it it, from the last version of the original kindle. On my old kindle, I was able to listen to demand play. My kindle fire is a tablet just like my old one and so I should be able to enjoy tablet free edition. I'm not able to and everytime I try, it doesn't let me and the shuffle play button shakes. This is a newer kindle than the original kindle so I should definantly have access to tablet free edition on my new kindle since its a tablet but also because its newer than my old kindle and I had it on that one.
Yes! I had on demand two days ago, now it's shuffle only. Annoying, and can't find a solution.
Same problem here - any solutions anywhere?
I have had spotify for months on my kindle and it has been working like a charm! Suddenly, it shifted to mobile mode and now it won't change even if I reinstall the app! Help!
P.s. I have version 3.6.0.789
It's weird. I tried the spotify helpdesk thing, but they had no solutions.
Hey there japeth12 - I think the problem is that Spotify classifies the Kindle Fire tablets as mobile devices, therefore it's shuffle only without Spotify Premium. I'm not trying to sell you anything at all - but Spotify Premium is not a lot of money each month and you can use it across all of your devices, unlimited, yay.
It's fully a tablet, and they advertise it as any song you like on tablet though... and it worked for months. I don't necessarily have ten dollars a month right now, I'm in highschool still.
Latest spotify update over the weekend seems to have solved the issue for me. Back to normal - lovely!
Problem is here again 😞
Only Shuffle possible...
