My Question or Issue

Few days ago, Spotify app just stopped using system DSP effects like Dolby Atmos,
Adjust sound to Headphones, Equalizer and such... regardless if I am playing through phone speakers or via Bluetooth.
Even Equalizer from the Spotify app itself that were working just fine, suddenly have no effect.
Note that all other apps I have tried like YouTube, Music Player, ... use DSP effects and work just fine, so I suspect that issue is related to Spotify app and not to the system.

Before problem occurred, everything was working flawlessly.
I cannot tell if this problem came with some of the latest updates,
but looks like started around the time when I got lossless quality option.

This is a major problem, since without possibility to adjust sound properly,
listening music on my headphones and speakers is useless.

Hello Oscar,

I have been very busy lately so did not have a time to make a recording of the issue.

Anyway, the problem went away recently.
I can't really tell the moment and what has happened and how/when/what solved the problem...
I was playing Spotify from my phone last evening and DSP effects are now back in place were working just fine.
Currently, there is a 9.0.94.274 version of Spotify on my phone and it works fine.

Thanks

Hey @dusansmail,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

This could be an expected behavior if Lossless is activated since the system may bypass other audio effects to ensure the lossless quality in the app. So in this case, if you have the audio quality set to Lossless, we'd recommend changing it to Very high for the system DPS effects to reappear.

If by any chance the effects are not yet available after lowering the quality, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app by following the steps in this article. This step is frequently ignored, yet it offers more depth than a regular one and can assist in eliminating any cache that may be causing issues.

Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, the Community is just a post away.

Hello Oscar,

I have tried clean reinstall with those instructions multiple times, even restarting the phone after uninstall and before the new install, still the problem persists.
The Audio streaming quality was never set to Lossless but to a Very high and Auto-adjust has been turned off.

Volume normalization
is On and set to Loud and that works just fine. Tried turning it off but problem with DSP still remains.

Now, after your answer, I have tried many times playing around with different Audio streaming quality settings for both Wi-fi/Cellular with switching networks/songs and sometimes restarting the app in-between, nothing helps.

Might be just my imagination, but seems like that when streaming quality is set to low (24 kbps) had no noticeable audible impact on the sound quality over my HI-FI so I am not sure what is happening and looks like those settings are being ignored, maybe stuck on lossless or something and that would explain the DSP being bypassed!?

Thanks for you engagement

Hey @dusansmail,

Thank you for keeping in contact.

To continue investigating this case, would you mind sending the exact steps you're following to replicate the behavior on our end? If you could include any screenshots or a video recording to take a better look it would be helpful.

It would also be great if you could have someone log in with their account on your device - such as a friend or a family member, to see if the issue persists.

Lastly, include in your next response the OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running.

We'll be waiting for your response.
