Unable to remove playlists on HTC One X

I have a set of playlists synced to my HTC One X. I've tried removing or changing these playlists both on the phone itself and in the Spotify desktop app.

It certainly looks like it's doing something and the playlists temporarily disappear from the phone, however a few hours later the phone shows them all back as downloaded playlists again (as does the desktop app).

It's driving me slightly mental. Can anyone help?
