So this is weird. I'm using around 5 gigs a month just on spotify, and I found out why today. I use spotify on my phone while I drive. When I get to work I use my account on the PC. While I'm listening to it on pc, for some reason it's streaming data on my phone while it's playing on PC. What's the fix for this? I watched my data usage go up, so I know this is happening.
I will double check usage amount tomorrow. You could be right, it could just be coincidence that when I happened to look at my phone, it jumped up in data usage. What's odd though is I don't drive 5 gigs worth of data a month. My work commute is 10 minutes. This doesn't affect my phone bill, so it isn't a huge deal, but still annoying. I'll post back tomorrow. Thanks.
There are various factors to consider; but as a general rule of thumb the below should provide a good idea of the data usage:
Normal Quality (96 kbps) - 0.75 MB per minute
High Quality (160 kbps) - 1.25 MB per minute
Extreme Quality (320 kbps) - 2.5 MB per minute
This should give you some idea of the data that would be used... so if you drive 10 mins per day and listen at extreme quality then you'd be using around 750MB a month just in your car (based on a 30 day month).
It may be worth installing an app such as Onavo Count which will be able to monitor your data usage so you can see exactly what's happening.
Double checked, and yes I am using data over my phone while listening on pc. And there is no way to disable "Devices" on the mobile. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app yesterday. I think what's happening is that they think we need seamless transition from choosing between devices (no buffering), so when I tell it to play from pc to phone it would be as if I pressed unpause. I tried disabling "Background data" for the mobile app, but it won't play after the first song ends, as I figured it would. I guess my only solution is to use a free account for the pc, so ads here I come!!! God I hate ads.
I am having the same problem.
Listened on my PC today but then checked my phone to find the data usage had jumped over 1 gb in a day. I hadnt even opened the app on my phone but there it was
playing the same songs that were on my PC playlist. There must be a fix for this as if i almost got billed loads for over usage of data by my phone company. Considering unistalling the app from my phone and going free on the pc!! Please respond spotify
