In this case, would you mind sharing with us the exact make/model and OS of your device along with the Spotify version you are currently running?
 

We'd like to add some insights. Keep in mind video in podcasts is not streamed when Spotify is in the background in the mobile app. When using the app in the background (for example, browsing in another app on your device while listening or having your phone locked), the data consumption is minimal. 

If the behavior you noticed is not present on a mobile device, did you notice if the app has always been behaving like this or does it start to happen after a specific event such as an OS update? Please send us the details about it.
