My Question or Issue

As of recently, whenever I switch between my phone and google home mini or vice versa, whatever playlist I am listening to starts back from the beginning. This happens on regular playlists, a song radio, daily mix etc. It used to pick up where it left off, so it seems like something changed recently.

Android version 9.0.58

When closing the app, the progress on a playlist / liked songs is lost and it goes back to the beggining.

Happening both in mobile and Windows.

Did Android clean reinstall. No change. I listen to songs, and when not doing so for a while or closing the app, it goes back to the first song i clicked on the playlist.

I use shuffle and it's very annoying since i have to click forward and remember where i left off every time i want to keep listening to that playlist.

Thanks!

Every time I switch between devices, my queue resets to the first songs that were played. For example, I started a fresh listen to my favourites on shuffle, it started with OH NO by Neoni, I let it play for some time, then switch to another device and the next song in the queue is OH NO again, followed by everything I already listened to until the one that is currently playing (or it starts on 1, I get to 10 and switch the device, 10 still plays but instead on continueing with 11, it has 1-9 back in the queue). It has nothing to do with my phone's app or OS version since it also happens when switching from browser tab to the media player in the side bar of the same browser or the desktop application. A temporary counter to that is switching devices after playing one song, so only that one gets re-added to the queue, but that doesn't always work.

This happens on PC Spotify app every other other day. And it doesn't queue up few songs here and there from other days, it queues songs 20+ songs back to back from 2 days ago, and I didn't play anything between, just continued playing play Liked Songs what I started to play 3-4 days ago on shuffle. This have happened maybe only twice on mobile in last 6 years, and I listened a lot on it (haven't listened on it that much few last months though, so apps connecting isn't to blame).

Is there anything what can help to stop PC app to do that?! I'm sick and tired of reshuffling liked songs, because then I get same songs, what plays more than others (what I would love to hear play more).

I'm waiting around a month to solve this. Do something, it's very annoying.

Hey there folks,

Thanks for all your replies and for the info shared.

Just to confirm, does this still happen? If yes, we'd like to continue investigating this behavior. In that sense, we'll need to gather some additional info. If you haven't yet, please send us:

  • The make/model and OS of the affected devices.
  • The exact Spotify version you're running on those.
  • A detailed description of the behavior you've noticed.
  • All the troubleshooting you've tried so far.

We really appreciate all your reports.

We'll be around!

Yes this is still a problem. I am using iPhone and everything is up to date. My software, the app, all of it.

Like everyone has said for months, when the app is closed it starts the queue back from the very beginning so matter how many songs have been listened to, so sometimes you listen to 50 songs and then it starts back at the beginning.

The fact that this thread is still so active should tell you it's a problem.

And, like everyone has mentioned, we've tried all the troubleshooting that was suggested. Clean reinstall, full on deleting and reinstalling, everything.
It is really frustrating that months later this is still an issue.

Yes, it's still an issue.

I'm not even going to bother entering a detailed description, due to the fact that everyone who has made a post here suffers from the exact same issue. That should be more than enough info to go off of. It's been an issue, on and off, for as long as I've been using Spotify (A little over 2 years now). It's beyond the joke. We've all tried the troubleshooting solutions that have been suggested. Nothing. Works. I've been constantly checking for updates to Spotify for the last month, possibly longer, hoping that the issue will be fixed. It's now gotten to the point that the same issue is plaguing the desktop version of Spotify.

Personally, I'm going to be cancelling my subscription in the coming weeks and I'll be reverting back to manually downloading and adding music to my devices. Enough is enough.

My Question or Issue

Hi, I often play songs from My Library (or any playlist) and skip songs in my queue. But when I exit the app and reenter it, these skipped songs will automatically reappear in my queue. This keeps happening no matter the number of songs skipped or if I clear my cache.

I have tried following Spotify support's instructions to clear cache, clear data, completely remove Spotify's data on my phone, restart my phone and to reinstall the app. But this issue persists.

Anyone else has that issue?

Edit: i have uploaded a screenrecording of what's going on.

Yes, and we've all had it for months now. Since Spotify and their tech team don't seem to care, my only advice to you is unshuffle and then shuffle again, or play something else and then go back to your Library. It at least adds a little variety in the moment. It's just really annoying to do it every time. I don't see Spotify ever fixing this.

I too, am having this issue for MONTHS now. The shuffle has always sucked ass, and now its not even a shuffle anymore. it wants to play the exact same songs i ALREADY listened to last time, in the exact same order as well.

At home i listen to my playlist with spotify connect on my yamaha RX-V4A. Lets say i started my session at song 30 and ended at song 50. Then, when i leave the house, i put spotify on my phone, it shows i was listening to song 50, but then after that song finishes, it goes right back to song 30 and continues playing from there, the exact same songs, in the exact same order.

I used numbers to show the issue, i do have the playlist on "shuffle" (whatever that might mean to spotify), but those numbers are just to get an idea.

This happens on my phone, pc, laptop, ANY spotify connect device, work laptop. so theres no point in posting device / app version, since the issue is EVERYWHERE.

Yes i have done clean re-installs, the issue is very clearly at spotify itself, for months now.

And there is no way to "re-shuffle" a playllist as well, so theres nothing you can really do to deal with this issue really. In the past you could just hit "play" on the playlist you were listening to again, and it would start a new track and generate a new queue, but that got removed too for some odd reason.

Things like this continues to make me believe that spotify employees dont use spotify themselves

It is only one thing to solve, you have done it few times. Do it. Me and other poeple waiting for it for months. Even new account doesn't solve this problem. I have to change my PC or mobile or what? That app can't work normally for long time.

Yeah I was wondering if I was the only one with this problem. It started happening probably around the end of last year and from time to time fixes, but most of the times the queue works this way when I switch devices. Its really stupid that spotify doesnt do anything about it and not only that, but its upping their subscription prices smh.

Had this again today. It's happened a lot over the last year or so. Never before that. iPhone app and Mac desktop app if it matters. Happened both with my old phone and my new phone, and my old laptop/new laptop. So definitely with fresh installs.

I have encountered the same issue when switching between playback devices. In the past, Spotify would resume playback from the exact point it left off, but it now restarts the playlist from the beginning. This occurs consistently across playlists, mixes, and radios, which indicates it may be the result of a recent change or a technical problem. It would be beneficial if this could be reviewed to ensure playback transitions remain seamless across devices. Enhancements of this nature are often aligned with best practices in mobile app development services, where maintaining continuity and user experience is a priority.

Hello,

I mainly listen in the car using the Android app.

Large playlist, fully downloaded for offline use.

Playback in Shuffle mode.

Drives are usually short (30–60 minutes).

Problem:
Each time I start the car, the app resumes playback, but the queue seems to repeat the same songs. I miss large parts of the playlist because tracks are played again in a loop.

If I restart playback from the playlist, the queue refreshes, but still there is no memory of already played tracks, so the same songs can appear again.

This issue does not happen on desktop — only on the Android app.

Could you please check this bug with shuffle + large offline playlists on Android?

Thanks.

My Question or Issue

  1. I play a playlist on shuffle.

  2. The current queue shows songs in this order:  A  B  C  D  E  F  G  H

  3. I skip a few songs from the queue A, B, and C, and start listening from song D for example

  4. The queue updates correctly — I expect it to continue from D onward.

  5. BUT if I close the Spotify app and reopen it, the queue resets and starts back at song A

Same issue here.. Don't know how long I've had it, but it really seems to have gotten worse the last 2-4 months I think.

I have Google Home playing a wake up playlist in the morning from my Google Nest speakers in the kitchen and when I go to shower I switch to the Google Mini and it just starts playing the first 2-4 songs once again every single morning and that's just one example! Happens many times a day on other output devices too.

It's one thing that I have to listen to the same **Bleep** songs many times a week, because Spotify thinks it knows what I want to hear, but to actually have the same songs playing over and over again in a short time frame on top of the worst "shuffle" function in history makes me seriously consider looking for alternatives. Please do something about this ASAP.. it's embarrassing! And add a **Bleep** real shuffle feature.. what is this?

Samsung Galaxy S22 but happens on any device.

Android 15

Again, this has been a recurrent problem since the start of the year. This needs to be fixed IMMEDIATELY.

Android 15, Premium Plan, Country: Uruguay, Version: 9.0.74.1121 (LATEST). Happens in Windows and mobile alike.

As everyone in the thread is describing, when closing the app or changing devices the "progress" on a playlist in shuffle is lost. That means, if i hit play on a playlist that's for example 500 songs long, and i listen to 100 today, i close it, and i'm back at the start. I have to click ahead to get to that song 100 and continue listening.

You may think it's a mild annoyance but it's not. If i'm walking and the app randomly closes, I receive a call, or some other audio starts playing, Spotify stops playing music. And now i have to stand in the middle of nowhere clicking ahead to not listen to the same songs i listened to earlier.

This person has the exact same problem and this is how my spotify looks like.

This is the only problem in Spotify that is actively affecting our experience as users. I listen to 200+ songs a day and it is by far the most relevant problem with the app and the one that requires urgent attention. It has not gotten better with any updates or whatever fixes you may have implemented.

Everyone experiences it. Address it now.
