Same issue here, if the phone fades to black or lock it the music stops playing after a fee seconds. If I tap the screen to light it up again it will continue playing, super frustrating!

Could you try to change battery settings on your phone? This may vary depending on a device.

Go to  battery settings and turn off optimise usage for spotify I had same issue since turning that off my spotify works when phone is locked
