My Question or Issue

I keep getting a pop up that says "Get the best Spotify experience on Android 12...Allow Bluetooth". I don't necessarily see a reason to allow bluetooth since everything is working fine for me. The problem is, I click "maybe later" but it comes up every single time i open the app even if it was just minimized for a second. How do I disable this thing?

@toddchi Exactly.

"Maybe Later" isn't a choice, its a very a-hole way to keep asking again and again in order to frustrate you enough that you just go ahead and give the permission to get rid of that annoying pop-up.

What a manipulative thing to do, this should be removed immediately or give us a "Never ask again" option. A proper option.

I keep getting that notification on the app asking me allow Bluetooth access to get the best experience on android 12. How can I make this end without capitulating to this constantly reoccurring demand.

Hey everyone,

Thank you for reaching out here in the Community! Apologies for the delayed response, but we just came across this thread.

We get that you're being bothered by a notification pop-up message related to the usage of Bluetooth when opening Spotify. This situation could be related to some local app settings on your devices as @Buige has mentioned, but we'll need a bit more info so we can give you a proper advice.

Could we ask for screenshots or a short video recording, that shows the message and the context of it popping up for you.  Also, beside the images/videos, please share with us the following additional info:

  • the exact version of Spotify you're rocking with.
  • the make, model and OS version of your devices.
  • what troubleshooting steps have you done so far (if any).

Keep us posted, we'll be on the lookout for your replies.

This isn't the app, it's the Android settings.

I just fixed it by going into settings on my phone.

Then app settings.

Then select Spotify

Then app permissions

Then select "nearby devices" and make sure they are allowed.

My Question or Issue

Can you please stop this message popping up every time I launch the app - including from background while running (after I had already dismissed it previously...) and when I unlock the screen. As you can see on the screenshot,

  1. Bluetooth is already enabled. Also:
  2. I don't have any Bluetooth devices that I need controlled by Spotify, but I actually play to my Sonos soundbar over WIFI and which I have already selected from Current Device, so, exactly what "things might not work as expected'??? Therefore:
  3. "Maybe Later" is a completely disingenuous option when plain and simple "NO" is what's required...

Seems to me that Spotify is constantly trying to dream up new cruel & unusual ways to stop me simply just listening to my music!

And what if I DON'T want to allow it???

Clearly that's not what anyone here is interested in doing. This is either cheeky (and poorly executed), or willfully obtuse, either way, do better.

While I believe my initial post included a photo, please see the attached. Android 12, Google Pixel 6. Spotify version is present in the image capture.

Phenomenon occurs open opening the application fresh, mid-session or after screen switching.

Photo attached a second time.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your replies.

We've passed this info to the development team. They'll be working on it in order to get this fixed.

We appreciate your patience.

Same here on Google pixel6 phone

I hit "maybe later" 3 times in 10 minutes. They I hit OK or "enable bluetooth" or whatever hoping it would go away. I saw the popup twice more in the next 10 minutes.

I don't have an F-ing Bluetooth device enabled. Bluetooth is disabled because bluetooth (the last time I checked) was fundamentally insecure.

Enough with the damn bluetooth.

Make it stop. I have been within a hair's breadth of dropping Spotify, because I'm not sure 10 bucks a month provides 10 bucks worth of value. This is decreasing the value of Spotify. A lot.

For what it's worth, in the 48 hours since I toggled Apps/Spotify/Permissions/Nearby Devices from Don't Allow to Allow, and then back to Don't Allow, the pop-up hasn't returned to date. And I am NOT a casual listener despite what my profile might say.

Still, Spotify should do a far better job of integrating it's apps with an OS that's been in the wild for the better part of a year now, without requiring users to do it's testing & development for them on the fly. As such and given the absolute plethora of stupid UX-sapping bugs lately that beggar belief for having escaped even the most perfunct of testing prior to release, I'd seriously question whether Spotify actually has a software testing regime to speak of at all?

Same problem on a Pixel 4a 5G in the UK with premium.
To make it doubly annoying, when I go into the Android settings (Settings > Apps > Spotify > Permissions) I see no request for permission to access Bluetooth (unless that's the "Nearby Devices" permission, which I have no reason or desire to allow).
Please sort this out. It's become very annoying.

I figured out how to fix it -

1. Go to Bluetooth settings and disable Music Share (I didn't know this even existed until I went to Bluetooth settings)

2. Force close app, clear cache, make sure Nearby Devices Permission is disallowed

3. Relaunch app.

Hi, I get this dialog every other time I switch to Spotify app. Really wonder if there is statistic about how many time I've declined it cause I sure did it more than 100 times.

What does this feature even do if I'd would finally decide to accept after like 100th times I taped 'Maybe Later'? Does it bring any benefits, where can I read more about on what the app would do with the permission?

Galaxy S10+.

It will not stop asking me. It pops up every time I switch to the app. Extremely annoying.

I've been having this exact problem today on my Galaxy A52 and it's been super annoying. However allmightysteve's above solution of just swiping down on the popup instead of clicking allow or maybe later seems to have worked for me and the popup no longer appears.

Hey folks,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for your patience.

Currently, the relevant team is taking a look into this. In case that the issue is still persistent, would you mind sending the Spotify version you're currently running on the affected device?

We'll be on the lookout.
