sound distortion

Hello,

I have a Google Nexus 5 and since I downloaded the new operating system last week there is considerable sound distortion during the songs on my playlists. I've checked the earphones and they work fine in other devices, also the phone plays music without distortion on other music apps and you tube so it is only with Spotify that I have the problem. It is an electronic disruption and is very annoying. Should I delete Spotify and download again? I've fiddled with the equaliser, stream quality and nothing seems to fix this.

Any suggestions?

Turning off the surround sound worked for most people that had this problem.
