Long pauses between songs AND while using crossfading

For the past year or so, I have been experiencing very long pauses between songs.  I have removed and re-downloaded the app.  I have turned everything off on the app.  I have turned everything on and every variation between.  The help I have read online talks about Data Saver, but my app does not have Data Saver.  

Further, when I turn Crossfading on, there is a long pause during the crossfade.  The first song cuts out short and then a long pause and then it finishes and fades into the next song.

Anyone else having this problem?  It happens on both my Kindle Fire and my desktop PC.
