Hello, I see about 5 other posts complaining about this, but customer support absolutely insisted they can't change anything but complaining here might make a difference.
So does anyone in this company actually listen to music or have human eyeballs? I'm dead serious. Like this isn't just bad, it's so bad that everyone I have talked to about it in person assumed it was a bug or something they messed up in the settings. If you aren't getting daily complaints about it that's the only reason, because nobody thinks this is good. This UI is so ugly that it actually upsets me on a personal level. The old UI allowed me to see about 9-12 different options at once, then slide through different ones horizontally that were themed in a way that made sense. This one has 2.5, and wastes so much black space. Look under the word "Muna" on this screenshot. Did I need podcast descriptions on the home page this badly? No. No one asked for this. No one in your graphics department should be allowed to hold a job ever again. Please the next time you're going to do something this poorly thought out just let us opt into the old UI.
If you're sticking with the card UI, a "not interested" button and overall speeding up the experience might make this some degree of usable. But don't do that. You aren't TikTok. When I listen to music I do this crazy thing where I spend some time thinking about what to listen to first. Fewer on-screen items is just obviously worse for the type of content that is actually on your app. At least add some customization to the "library" section. I am actually begging here I don't want to go back to Tidal but this makes my eyes bleed.
I did think it was me and just spent an hour on with support before they realised that my issue was a design feature. I wrongly assumed Spotify had given me a setting I had **bleep** up. Turns out the only features that made them better than the rest; App ease of use and music curation, are no longer part of the design consideration. I will finally take Apple up on that 6 months free membership they are offering. At least I can have lossless there and a bigger library, both of which I was happy to sacrifice in return for great curation and ease. Oh well. All good things must end. Happy scrobbling Spotify people.
Astonishingly terrible new UI. I immediately unsubbed. The old app was a staple in my life, daily use multiple times a day for the last 7 years. I’m gutted right now. Went to Apple Music instead.
According to an article I read, the new UI is intended to aid in music discovery. I cannot fathom how that could be the case. Previously I could view a dozen or more "tiles" each of which had mixes and artists I follow. I could scroll through dozens of them at a glance, giving me a wide pallete of moods and sounds to choose the right fit for my day. Now I can only see one option at a time, it takes up the whole damn screen and that is the only option you get. Unless you actively scroll, then you get a second option. So now instead of having a whole list of options I can immediately discern between at a glance, I have to scroll through ONE OPTION AT A TIME??! That is so backwards and unhelpful and ridiculous.
Furthermore, as you scroll you have to hear every single f*cking song and are assaulted by all of these options playing at once as you move through them. It sounds ugly and awful. It is an experience that is offensive to the senses. It is too much hyper video, loud music samples bombastically flipping from one to the next, and it leaves you feeling overwhelmed and with "tunnel vision" from only being able to see one option at a time. It feels stressful, which is the opposite feeling of what I go to a music app for: providing a sense of peace and control over the emotional climate of my day, even an escape from the noise and chaos of the world (this "noise and chaos" includes the type of apps with intrusive, addictive short-form content which Spotify is trying to emulate).
This is truly awful, anti-consumer UI which has killed much of what was useful and helpful about the app. I have already opened an account with Apple Music. If this update is not rolled back or we are not given an option to use the old interface, I'm canceling my premium account. I'll happily recreate all my playlists in another app. That's easy. Spotify you have about 2 weeks to fix it before I'm gone for good.
The new UI is just terrible. I have only 1 or 2 Daily Mixes on my home page and most of the times they are not what I want. Finding the rest is really trouble.
The reason you can *only* see 5 other threads complaining about the new home page is that they keep rolling them up into the massive pinned thread at the top. My post got subsumed into that, and the replies to it mixed in with the others on that thread. Obviously mods of this forum think page after page of posts complaining about this horrible change is a bad look.
