Hello.
I'll keep it short : the new desktop app is terrible.
First of all,as someone who use their pc in public space I log back in quite often and having to go through a chrome window to get me to my app is both unecessary friction and horrible design : it's just a pointless update.
Second of all : the policy of "EVERYHING IS NOW A SQUARE" as a design is chunky, unaesthetic not fluid and just an horrendous update all around.
I really hate the new app,can I please get back to the old version with the old normal login whithout unecessary steps or should I just find a new streaming service to subscribe to ?
I'd second this. The new UI is brutal. They've also managed to make it even slower if that's possible. It is no longer possible to re-arrange folder items in the left-hand pane. And if you have a folder nested inside another it is now not possible to un-nest it. Really, Spotify should fire whoever is running the UI team. This thing is so buggy it's a miracle it made it through QA - assuming Spotify actually have a QA department - on this evidence I'm not sure they do. And in a further attempt to stick it to the paying customer: it does not seem possible any more to install an older version of the desktop app: when you try it just pulls down the latest version and you're left with the current steaming pile...
You can't even go back to older version without them forcing you to the new ?
Alright I guess I'll see what Deezer & Apple Music have to offer then
Totoally agree, the new app is bad all round, web browser log in everytime I launch the app before allowed to use the app, such an unnecessary & damn annoying step to add, then there's the horrendous UI layout, just leave the log in on the app like it was before, who green lighted this?
Seriously, can someone give Jim Henson's creature shop a call, they must be missing some of their muppets, there's nothing worse than when a few people with the combined I.Q. of a toilet brush get together & push out one massive **bleep** of an idea onto everyone & think it's an improvement. What can we look forward to in the next update at log in? Photo ID?
I agree it's a step backwards and the need to use a browser to log in is ridiculous.
I just wanted to point out you can do a couple of things that you said you cannot:
@thisisgok wrote:It is no longer possible to re-arrange folder items in the left-hand pane.
You can. You need to set the order to custom, then you can drag and drop items.
@thisisgok wrote:if you have a folder nested inside another it is now not possible to un-nest it.
It's convoluted but possible. You need to be in custom order, then click the little drop-down arrow to the right of the parent folder name which will expand the folder but not enter it. From here you can drag a playlist or folder out of the parent folder and put it wherever you want.
Came here looking for this. it's AWFUL. but if you enable "use compact library layout" in settings, it's not terribly unlike how it used to be.
but stop reverting what my "library" is! my library is folders and playlists. it has been for over a decade, and i'll change it if i like it. leave it there until i change it.
I mean,if your UI is so convoluted that people using the product for 10 years have to search online how to do features that were baseline for the 10 years, you need to fire whoever pushed that new update and FAST.
Props to you for helping tho
Thanks for your reply - my comments in italics:

You can click into a folder and set custom order on then re-arrange, that is true. but when you click back up to the parent folder with the child expanded, it's items are no longer displayed in custom order. Plus you have to turn on custom order every single time you click into the folder. It's horrendous....

I haven't been able to do this, but am willing to be convinced. Can you post up a video clip if you get a chance?
I've
Agreed. I've been a paying member non-stop since 2011, and Spotify keeps inventing new ways to **bleep** me off. Stop messing with the app so much!
If you set it to "compact library layout" in settings, it's much easier to organize folders and playlists than default view
Uhh, it is strange. Spotify rolled out a new desktop app a few months ago. After we lifted the boot about this here in the community they rolled back. You all see this topic with more than 2000 replies. And today they rolled out a new tiktok-style app interface again.
The "TikTok" interface is coming to desktop here soon. This update is a stepping stone because it adds UI elements for filtering, they did the same thing to mobile a year-ish back. And actually, it goes back even further than that with the unification of the players codebase https://engineering.atspotify.com/2021/04/building-the-future-of-our-desktop-apps/
Welcome to the new Spotify!
It's full steam ahead for the incredible geniuses in the C-level. I would suggest you leave now for another platform, there are many other music streaming platforms that would love your business.
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
