Hi there,
As an avid music listener, IT expert, audiophile and domotica specialist I have arranged all media consumption within the household (wife, kids) to come through a centralized media hub. Which means that I have multiple devices in the house using all kinds of media, including Spotify streaming.
Normally this would not have been an issue, but my wife is as much a music lover as I am, and our kids are starting to follow suit. You can imagine that only being able to stream Spotify to one single device can be a nuisance when more people are at home. The simultaneous use is not intensive enough to warrant 4 or 5 premium accounts, so I would like to ask you to come up with either a family volume plan or a more expensive up-to-5 simultaneous streams Family-Premium subscription ..
Happy to discuss,
Regards,
WizNL
I'll pile on here. Just signed up for Spotify premium and this family thing is a total pain.
YES. Long over due and iTunes is terrible at this so Spotify can show some thought leadership breaking from its core 20 something Facebook junkie listeners and into families....
If you have a sonos system or similar solution, this is a huge problem. You want to be able to listen to your own playlist or stream from your room speaker where you are at the moment. So if Spotify could come up with a subscription where they allow multiple streams to the same IP address I would sign up. I shouldn´t be so hard to achieve.
been talking about this for over a year and we all get ignored by Spotify.
IP check = best solution
Other provides family accounts not Spotify, simply sucks!

Its not just that though, something like this in allowing multiple users to log into the same account similtaneously would mean there would need to be a change in the terms of service, which has to be negociated with every single record label and rights holder I would imagine. That is a monumental amount of work for a tiny change.

Been googling about this and landed me here. Doesn't seem Spotify pays attention to their coomunity but if they do,I dont mind paying double nor per user in a family/household account.
Any news on this?
I just bought a SONOS system and at the moment pay for 2 Spotify premium. It's not possible to coordinate who use which account or switch between different account in the SONOS system dependent on who use which account outside of the house. It's a mess and I need to find a streeming provider who solve this one!
I am also a SONOS user. Have been for 3+ years. I have a Spotify account just for SONOS at home. It is rediculous that I cannot have a second stream (willing to pay extra) to be able to use my mobile device while traveling for work without interfering with my family at home.
They key is that I want one account because I have many saved playlists both through Spotify and through the SONOS interface.
The SONOS interface lets me create playlists from many music sources, which Spotify is only one of.
When I am traveling and someone at home tries to queue up a SONOS playlist, half the songs are from Spotify and will not play.
For $10 bucks a month, I expect more. I can watch Netflix movies on my laptop while traveling and all the while, my PS3 is playing movies at home. Using contractually issues between record labels and Spotify is a joke. Movie distributors and Netflix figured it out. Everyone is making money. Let us take full advantage of this medium without nickel and diming us.
I agree with some of the others that I would pay more to listen on two devices at the same time. This is more for my wife and I and the equipment we have in our home. It's a pain to maintain two separate accounts. We ran into the same issue with Netflix limiting two simultaneous streams. With kids, this was a pain. We gladly paid the extra few bucks a month to watch on four devices at the same time.
If spotify is listening, I would easily pay $15 a month for an account that had two streams.
So let me make sure I got this right -
1) If both users are streaming, only one will hear, BUT
2) If they are using offline mode and offline playlists, BOTH can listen at same time.
Correct?

That is correct. Forcing offline mode will allow you to listen on two devices. In fact if you force one device into offline mode, the other can stream.

I dont wanna ditch spotify and as much as I understand their policy, its greedy to guage people - obviously every person has different music tastes - i dont even mind one user at a time.... but I want my songs broadcasted on FB, but when mrs uses it - the theme song from titanic posted as me to other users - well thats just embarrasing really... surelly you can toggle users ? What other softwares are out there?

But I do understand you are limited but
i buy from itunes, itunes will let me shares this with a few people within the same household.
And with Spotify, this gets me to discover more music, song I would of never even heard of then I would tag it and my wife can listen to it.
Then if we like it we buy it, because with streaming the song never belongs to us.
