Have a read at the FAQ it links you to.

Currently, I am not aware of anymore information about if the download store will return or not.

I have exactly the same problem and it´s very annoying that there is no more information than that anywhere

I'm affraid Spotify has stopped this service alltogether.

So now it's basically finding another source for downloads!

http://community.spotify.com/t5/Desktop-Windows/Purchasing-MUsic/m-p/228168/highlight/false#M20182

That is not what that post says exactly, as I don't work for Spotify I can't give you an official answer however until we know if the downloads store will be returning or not for sure, all I can suggest is you find an alternative source for downloads.

Maybe not entirely acurate of me (sorry!), but reading between the lines the old cleche still aplies: "where there is smoke, there is fire": The all sudden stop, and not comming up with any explanation at all to _paying_ custommers for more than a week is suspect to me.

All alternatives don't have buy-download options, and streaming is not working for me. And I refuse to download illegaly.

Still paying my Premium-fee though hoping for some clarity from Spotify. Bummer!

If the reply posted in this post is true then it looks like the Spotify downloads store will not be returning.

Also, what issues are you having with streaming?

In that definitive case I will stop my Premium membership and turn to grooveshark.com to explore for music and purchase music the conventional way.(By the way: Grooveshark is free and has a much more complete selection of music compared to Spotify. Pitty it also only allows streaming and not downloading ).

Streaming doesn't work for me (except for exploratory purposes) because, consequential to not owning music in a physical form (e.g. mp3-format):
1. I will not be able to play music on the media I chose appropriate and deem comfortable.
2. I will not be able to own my music, for which I've _payed for_, the same way I can any other product. I still will be paying, but

knowing I will be at the mercy of availability and terms onesidedly dictated and changed by providing companies.  (Worst case scenario: iTunes)
3. I will have to hope for a sufficient and unchanging selection of available streamable music at the hand of the providing company.

Leaving me subject to every uncosiderate whim of such a hosting company to diminish or cut off access and quality at any time. (Yes, I get attached to music!)
4. I will have to be online all the time, which, enroute, is not allways possible.
5. It will drain my cellular's battery continuously, when I prefer to use my much smaller, handyer, and longer lastingly AAA-battery powered 32Gb mp3-player.

Unless I missed it, I wasn't informed that I would suddenly not be able to buy music and Spotify aren't really giving a straight answer as to why the big change.  it's just a matter of fact thing, which is leaving me puzzled and annoyed I can't buy music... can you?

We recently updated Spotify to further simplify the service and pave the way for new features announced at the end of last year. In-app purchases aren't part of this update but we're not ruling out their return. If you have some remaining credits you will be able to use them, but not buy any more I'm afraid...

FROM SPOTIFY
Hello there again,

Thank you for getting back in touch with this information.

Ahhh I see, Sorry for the oversight.

If this is the case it will be that we no longer support purchasing tracks, If you have existing credits we will take a look at this for you.

If you are just clicking to buy with e registered card it will not be something you can do at this time as it is being discontinued moving forward.

I hope this is ok for you, but if you have any other problems or questions please let me know.

Best wishes.

Hey! Welcome to the community 🙂

Unfortunately, I don't think any more detail was given out about why the downloads store was removed. Click the link in my signature to go to my ideas topic to bring it back 😉

As it says in the email, I think this was probably done in Spotify's attempts to streamline the service and to focus more on streaming which is their main revenue source.

"Dear" Spotify,

Well, since you obviously disregard the needs of the public, having only your interest in mind and say it's all-right, I would suggest the public to go elsewhere. Something I would recomend to my fellow public:

- grooveshark.com for streaming: Bigger collection of streamable music.Excelent quality sound.

- 7digital.com for purchasing music.

Bye Spotify!

Grooveshark is not a good choice, not if you care about legal content and artists being paid for track listens. They are or have been literally sued by everyone for copyright infringement in the past. Just have a look at wikipedia.

Was Spotify doing such a good job on that? [HAve a look on Wikipedia]

In what way do you mean exactly?

There is a difference between being accused of failing to compensate fairly and either:

a) Not paying artists at all.

b) Using copyright material without permission and then being sued for it.

That is what I was trying to outline in my original post.

let's say you're right (even though I am convinced Spotify is not kosher either): the bottomline is still that, in all this everlasting, ongoing, petty bickering between artists, music companies and music distributors, the public is not being served and pays a big price for it , and no party asumes responsability for what the public has to suffer for due to this. Outrageous!
