How do I disable Spotify Connect?
If I've got my tablet (iPad) running the app, I definitely don't want my phone running it and draining the battery with the app running there as well.
Thanks

Edit by @Daniel
I've just added a guide on ways of disabling Spotify Connect. Hopefully there will be a way of enabling/disabling the service at will in the future.
How to disable Spotify Connect
MODERATOR EDIT:
Hey everyone, Spotify staff here. Recently we updated the Community Idea "Make Spotify Connect a choice" with the status "Not Right Now".
If you've installed our latest Spotify app for Android (1.8.0) and you're still having trouble with battery drain please let us know right here.
We'd also like to mention these other Connect ideas which are a bit more specific to the Connectrequests you've made in this thread. Please leave your kudos and feedback in those as well if they apply to the reasons you'd like to turn off Spotify Connect.

I'm having the same issues as well. Samsung galaxy tab on my home network, Samsung note 3 on Verizon. I have unlimited data on my phone so it is never connected to my home network. I first noticed the issue when I bought a Jawbone Big Jambox Bluetooth speaker. Connected with my phone, no issues. A few days later I connected the galaxy tab. After it connected I hit play on my tablet and the music started playing through my phone speaker instead. Took a while to get it playing through the Bluetooth speaker, but I figured that part out. The problem is I normally listen to different playlists on each device, but when I come home and listen to one of them, the other device fires up and syncs. The really stupid thing about it is if I'm using the phone and go over to the tab and hit stop, the music will stop. It's like both devices become one, and they are NOT EVEN on the same network. This will happen even if Bluetooth is turned off on one of them. Very frustrating!
The only thing I can think of as to how this is possible is that I use facebook to log in on all my devices. It's the only way they are possibly connected. I do see the benefit of this feature, and I'm sure it can and will be improved. But it would be nice if it could be disabled.
Having similar issues, it's annoying as hell. I have spotify on my nexus 7 and xperia v. Unless I force close spotify on either device, it starts spotify on the other device. It's vital to be able to turn the connect feature off since it starts draining the battery of the other device even if I point the connect to the device I'm originally trying to listen to.
For example, I start spotify on the tablet, point the connect feature to itself (as it usually starts connecting to the phone for whatever reason), spotify will keep running on the phone and drains the battery. To stop it from doing so I have to manually force close it on the phone. And vice versa.
This happens regardless of connections, I tried having the phone on 3G and the tablet on wifi. Spotify popped up on the phone/tablet as soon as the other device started playing something, force closing being the only workaround currently.

Just wanted to add that I can't even get the Connect feature to switch playback onto the selected device. I opened the app on my Android phone, and I began to immediately play on my wife's Android phone (even though her device was never selected). I also cannot get the music playback to switch back to my device. Please make an off to this feature.
Yes please convince the Spotify people to stop this Connect nonsense.
It is killing my phone battery - - and I am not even listening to Spotify on my phone! I am not exaggerating. I am looking at the battery stats on my Moto X, showing Spotify killing my battery even though I am listening on my tablet.
I am a paid Spotify member - - but I will have to cancel if not fixed by Monday.
Thank you to everyone for all of this information. I wanted to add that I am having this same issue across android and iOS devices. It doesn't matter which it is, it plays on the wrong device instead of just pausing it like it did before.
Add me to the list of users already hating this Connect mess. In addition to force launching Spotify on my phone every time I listen to music on my tablet, it causes playback issues. Ever since Connect appearing, I keep coming across a situation where the song playback on my tablet will always stop after half a second after starting and the only way to fix it that I've found is to start the song playback from my phone and then move it while playing to the tab using Connect. Both devices are Samsung Note series if that's a factor.
The only use I've found for Connect is remote controlling the Spotify on my tablet from my phone if I happen to have left the tablet in another room and happen to have the phone in my pocket. Well, that rarely happens. If Connect would work from/to Windows Spotify application and Logitech UE Smart Radio, then it might actually be of some use. I would like to control the music from my PC and Logitech Android remote control app is miserable. Somehow I don't see Logitech implementing this feature though...

I was just running the app with my dad on the shared family account (he has an iPhone 5, I have a GS3) and I can confirm that unless one of the devices has Spotify entirely closed, or is running in offline mode, the other can and will connect to it automatically. So every time I tried to play music online, it actually went straight to his phone and played from there (and vice versa). Is there any way to change it so that when I am online and trying to play music, my device doesn't automatically connect with the other mobile device on the shared account and play from there? It seems as if that is the default.
I am finding this quite annoying too.
I was on the bus trying to stream a song on my phone, and the player started rolling, but with no sound.
After multiple tries, I got a call from my wife that was wondering why the heck our Nexus 7 pad started playing the same song over and over again. I asked her to turn the pad off, and then I got my music.
I hope this is an issue that will be adressed quickly, since I often use Spotify from the phone in my car, and then I want to hear the music there, and not at home, where only our cat can hear it...

If you set ur playlist to be available to play offline, then turn the offline mode, on, in that device, another device cannot control or even connect to it.
I hope that made sense! I was more than frustrated that I pay for a premium account, that multiple people can use, but not at the same time!! ... this has been the only way I could get around it this far ...
Hiya. The android version of Spotify I'm using has a Connect section in settings where I can set the output device to the one in my hand before I start playing music. Also I get a banner at the bottom if the music is playing from another connected device saying something like "Playing from: XW-SMA1...".
Once I adapted to the way connect works, I had no problems. I doubt that connect increases battery drain on other devices significantly - there are always two spotify services running in the background anyway. I would guess that one relates to notifications and the other one to connect.
I suspect the biggest problem is for folk who share their account and I somehow doubt that the devs will be falling over themselves to fix this somehow.

Hey there.
Spotify is not licensed or even designed to share content with family etc. Everyone should get own account.

Hey,
i have a problem with the connect, too.
I´ve selected my device, but every time i start a song, the song appears on another device.
Is there any solution for this problem besides deleting spotify on the other device?

That's by design so you can instantly continue playback on other connect devices. As long as it plays on your device and not on the other, there's no problem is there?
