can't share to spotify-user anymore??!!!

Hi,

I don't have facebook, twitter or tumblr - but I used to send a lot of music through the share-function. All of a sudden with this update I can only send to my spotify-friends that have facebook, twitter or tumblr it seems? one of my friends, who like me has no social network connected to the profile, the share-function just won't find anymore!Am I doing something wrong?

Hi JennyLi - You can definitely still share tracks with your friends that are on Spotify. 

The key is making sure you've added them to your 'People List'. Get your friend's username and enter "spotify:user:XXXXXXXX" into your search bar. 

You'll then see their profile and see a yellow bar at the top. It will read something like "Make it easier to access Meredith's music by adding Meredith  to your People List". 

Once you've done that, right click on any track > select 'Share to' > Send to Friend > Type in your friend's name.

Oh I've done that - I've been sharing to this specific person for months before the update. The weird thing now is that I find all my other "people" when using the new share-function and send to friend - but not him. He is the only one I can't fint there, and he is still on my list of "people" - but he just can't be found by the share-function anymore. I have no idea why that is?!

Hm that is strange. I've just sent you an email asking for a few more details.

Jusyt tried to share to a spotify user by just specifying his spodtify user ID, using the "share to" option gives teh impresion that this is possible but it just ignores the input in the user ID field.

I do not want to connect spotify to my facebook account, twitter or any other community, I just want to be able to share tracks to a few specific people.

Using the "spotify:user:XXX" and adding the user to favorite people list works but it's cumbersome and I needed to google "spofity cant share tracks to friend" in order to find the "solution" in this thread. If I haven't gravely missunderstod spotify and am overseeing something very obvious, I think the sharing of tracks has decreased in ease of use and I initially got fustrated that spotify had missed out on such a basic test case as sharing of tracks with friends. Now as it turns out it was made by choice I'm kind of baffled... Spotify actually removed easy-to-use basic functionality and willfully became dependent on third party communities in order to provide an easy sharing service?

I agree!  And if of any interest: I finally managed to figure out why I can't share tracks to my specific friend - his user name starts with Swedish letter "Ä". The support agree that this is the problem and I can always enter his profile page since making him a friend, and send through the "form" there, but it is still incredibly annoying that I can't send the songs directly.  I thought they would solve it since I pointed it out a few months ago, and it is a Swedish company and if they agree to have Swedish letters in the user names they should find a way to make it work with the share function one would think...

I have a Spotify account that I opened sometime last year with a user name (not connected to facebook). I did eventually connect it to my facebook, but have since shut my facebook down. I have been sending tracks (mainly to only one other user) but now I cannot send tracks to anyone. My other friend has a username for his spotify so it was easy for me to find him (not using facebook). But as of two weeks ago, I cannot even send to him. Please help. This is so annoying. We did send music to each other all the time. It is so frustrating because I want to send other people music, but since I am not connected to facebook (even though have them in my friends list) I cannot send anyone any music. Why does Spotify hate people that don't have facebook? He can still send me music. And yes, he is on Facebook.

Same here, getting really cheesed off with the increasing prevalence of FaceBook. Ain't f@ucking interested in combining this and Facebook. Please don't make me stop paying you every month for this excellent service.

Couldn't agree more. I'm not on FB, never have been, never will be.

I've spent the last 3 years telling everyone how great Spotify is, especially for sharing music - but now it's not!

I'm completely stuck as it won't let me just share straight to another Spotify user not already in my friends list and the search for people by user name function works for some names and not others. I don't understand this but then I don't need or want to: I just want to be able to share music again.

Hi, I have a similar problem. I opened an account today using my facebook profile. My wife is using my previous account (we decided we need one each), which is linked to her facebook account. When we send playlists to each other, we get messages in facebook but nothing in our spotify inbox? What I want to do is subscribe to all of her playlists so I can download them to my iPhone, and vice versa. What am I doing wrong?

Literally worked less than an hour ago... and now I can't send songs to anyone who isn't linked via Facebook. I get a 'the message can't be sent' error. They cannot send me any songs either. This appears to have happened after I connected to facebook to look someone up, then disconnected again. I've logged out and back in, restarted, nothing helps. I'm cut off from anyone without facebook. Please fix!

edit: i don't get an error when I use 'share to...' but I can no longer drag and drop songs onto friends in my Favorites.  Friends still can't share with me either.

Same problem here, only limited to non facebook users and not getting the error if i use 'share to' but haven't checked if they actually receive my tracks though.

p.s.
All spotify problems i've had in the last year seem to be connected to facebook and old style acounts somehow (I even had an automaticaly created second non premium spotify acount which i could only access with facebook credentials) could you please pull the ear of whoever is responsible for the facebook integration and get them to fix the multiple bugs please? 😉

Hi suddendly I am unable to share music with my FB friends... I go to the song and click on the sharing button and it looks like the track was sent but my friends are still telling me they got nothing at the application, they got a Facebook message with the song thou...

my friends are getting a 'unable to send' error message when trying to forward me songs. i don't have facebook so my account is just a spotify account. pretty bad considering i'm paying £10 a month for this.

I've been sending tracks to one of my friends for a long time and suddenly, at the weekend, it stopped working. It said 'message sent' but when I spoke to him he had not received the track. He tried to send a track to me and that didn't work either - he clicked 'people' and got a message saying 'get started' that takes him to FB and he doesn't want that. He's sent me stuff before direct from Spotify.

 I tried to send by clicking on his avatar and this time I got a message saying it couldn't send.

My friend's account is FB linked but that hasn't made a difference before. As a matter of interest, he says he never linked the accounts himself - it just happened. Another friend of his recently tried to send him a track via FB but he can't play it.

I know I've said it before and so have plenty of others but this is frustrating coz a system that used to be beautifully simple is all over the place.

I've got Spotify linked w/Facebook - have had it this way for over a year since I signed up.

One friend in particular, is not receiving my tracks in their Spotify inbox. Everyone else on my friends list is receiving tracks I send fine.

The particular user who I can't send tracks to now, was able to receive them before the latest update and they can currently still send tracks to me.

This problem occurs regardless of what computer I send it from.

Hey, I have the same problem since I updated my spotify version 😞

Now I don't receive the songs on my Spotify inbox... I can see them on my fb messages, though.

Why is this happening? Can it be fixed? I want to keep track of the songs people send me!
