doesn't recognize password

Solved!

doesn't recognize password

I got a message that my credit card had expired for my spotify  premium subscription so I  was changed to spotify free.  I  updated the credit card info then tried to re-order premium.  Spotify said I  was using  the  wrong password  (but  it's the  same password I was using before) and wouldn't  process my  order.   I  sent them an email message asking for help  several days ago but  have received no response.

I like spotify but don't like  being ignored.

marthaa & jarra - I've got emails on their way to both of you now.

Take a look whenever you get the chance--thanks.

I have the exact same issue as the initial poster:

"I got a message that my credit card had expired for my spotify  premium subscription so I  was changed to spotify free.  I  updated the credit card info then tried to re-order premium.  Spotify said I  was using  the  wrong password  (but  it's the  same password I was using before) and wouldn't  process my  order. "

I used the contact form to seek assistance, and received the following response, which does not address the concern.  The error is listed as a refusal of payment, however I am unable to enter a method of payment, due to the wrong password error. I signed up via facebook, and was successfully charged previously, making me question the refusal of payment error further.  If there is any additional guidance that could be provided, I would appreciate it.  Otherwise I will take this as the universe's way of saying I do not need to purchase a Spotify membership.

"Hi,

Thanks for getting in touch.

The reason why your receiving the "Sorry, wrong password" error is because your payment has been refused.

I sugest you check the following requirements that need to be met for a payment to be successfully made:
1. Your card must not have expired. If you have received a new card, please update your card details on your Subscription page: https://www.spotify.com/account/subscription/

2. The country set in your Spotify account profile must match the country where your card is registered. If you intend to use a payment method in another country, you can make this selection on your Subscription page (We can only accept payment from our launch countries).

3. Your card should be enabled for e-commerce transactions (Verified by Visa/Mastercard securecard card).

4. Your card must be open to be used for foreign purchases.

5. There are some banks that require other security authentifications, the most common one being 3DSecure.

Once you have checked all of the above, please try again to subscribe from the subscription page of your account.

If it still doesn't seem to be working, you should try discussing this with your bank.

As soon as you can sort out the payment problems, your password will be accepted, if not the you should have it
changed through Facebook.

You'll have to go there to change your password.

You should be able to do this at www.facebook.com/recover.php ink

We hope this helps.

Wishing you all the best, in music and life.

I cannot log in to the spotify app, either on PC or my android device, even though I can log in through the web page.  I changed my password, but this didn't help.  I just signed up for Spotify premium right before, but now I can't use anything.

Also, if this is a common problem, why is support sending individual emails instead of posting step by step instructions as was requested?  If the information were easily available, we might be able to solve our problems sooner.

Pcherches - You should be able to log into your Spotify account with the username 'pcherches' and your Spotify password. Is this not the case?

Who's your Spotify Star?

Yes, that is not the case!  Invalid username/password (error 410).

Hmm ok. I can't see anything wrong with your account our end. Could you try a clean reinstall of your Spotify, there might be a slight corruption in the download. You can get directions here: https://www.spotify.com/help/faq/tech/clean-reinstallation-of-spotify/

Who's your Spotify Star?

So, I was able to set up a second account with my facebook credentials and import my playlists from my original account, and even log in to the android app, then the app got stuck in offline mode, another common problem, it seems.  So if Spotify doesn't get its act together they're going to lose a lot of subscription revenue.  I'll continue to use the free version on my desktop, but I certainly won't pay for an app that doesn't work properly.  I'm surprised that Spotify has been so lax about addressing these issues.  Spotify may have killed off Napster, but eventually an app that works properly with good customer support might just dethrone Spotify...

Sam, a reinstall worked for getting me logged in on my original account on my desktop, so thanks for that.  In addition, I reinstalled the android app and was also able to log in and am in online mode under my original account.  I'm going to DL some playlists for offline use, then switch to offline mode.  If I get stuck in offline mode again, I won't be subscribing to premium after my trial is up.

I should add that the device that's getting stuck in offline mode is a Kindle Fire, which isn't officially supported, so maybe that's the problem.  Clearly the app works up to a point on the Kindle fire, so when is a proper app going to be built for the Fire?

I do, however, see from blogs and online forums that this is a well known problem even on officially supported devices.

I am having a problem whereby the Spotify PC application does not recognize my password. I have done a password reset twice, just to be sure. The new password did not work. I've tried typing it in carefully and I've tried using my password manager. The Spotify PC app doesn't recognize my password.

To test it, I tried logging in with Facebook using my password manager. That worked. This made me angry because it gave me the impression that Spotify is pushing Facebook logins and not recognizing accounts made with its own service.

Brin5tar - Are you logging in with the username 'brin5tar' at all? Your Facebook account isn't attached to this 'brin5star' account, so it's likely you have 2 accounts here and the logins are getting mixed up.

If you email into Customer Support, we'll be able to get you logged into that Spotify account. Just head here: https://www.spotify.com/about-us/contact/contact-spotify-support

Who's your Spotify Star?

I realize this is a very old thread but I am having this exact problem now. After a fresh install on Windows 10, Spotify does not recognize my password, even after a re-install and password reset.

I was on the free trial then signed up for the paid subscription.  After that, everywhere I had the spotify app (iphone6, ipad), the log in no longer works.  I can log into my account, I have changed my password numerous times, but it never works to open Spotify.  I have deleted the app, reinstalled it and always, nada.

What the heck is going on when the free version works, but when you pay, you get locked out of using the app.  The wasted time trying to figure this out is really what annoys me.  Maybe its time to cancel my subscription and go with iMusic instead....
