Collaborative playlists are one of my favorite ways to share music with friends. But whenever someone added a song I loved, there wasn't really a quick way to react to it. That's where Track Reactions come in.
Now, when someone adds a song to a collaborative playlist, I can react directly to that track with an emoji. Sometimes a simple ❤️ says everything. Other times, a 😂, 🔥, 👍, 🎧, or 🥺 perfectly captures my reaction to a song choice. It feels natural and adds a new layer of personality to the playlist experience.

What I like most is how easy it is to use. When I tap on the reactions button next to a track, a reaction sheet opens up with a set of familiar emojis. From there, I can quickly choose one, and it immediately appears alongside the song. It’s such a simple addition, but it makes collaborative playlists feel much more like a conversation than just a list of songs.
I can also see reactions from other contributors, which often spark conversations around the music we're sharing. Sometimes a friend adds a nostalgic song, and suddenly everyone is reacting to it. Other times, a discovery gets a bunch of 🔥 reactions and instantly becomes the playlist favorite.
Another detail I appreciate is that reactions stay within the collaborative playlist itself. Only playlist owners and collaborators can see or add reactions, which helps keep the experience focused on the people who are actually contributing to the playlist.

If someone reacts to a song that I added, I can even receive a notification through Spotify messaging when we're connected. It creates those little moments of interaction that make sharing music more fun.
I also like that playlist owners remain in control. Reactions are enabled by default on eligible collaborative playlists, but owners can turn them on or off at any time through the playlist settings. That flexibility makes sense because every playlist has a different purpose. Some are built for conversation and discovery, while others are meant to stay simple and focused.
For me, Track Reactions makes collaborative playlists feel closer to a group chat built around music. It's a lightweight way to celebrate great song choices, react to unexpected additions, and stay connected through the tracks we're sharing together. Sometimes a single emoji is all it takes to start a conversation.
Track Reactions will be rolling out over the coming weeks in select markets. Make sure to keep your app up to date so you don't miss any new features.
