My Question or Issue

Hey Spotify,

I am the mother of teen and tween boys and I'm paying you for a service called Premium FAMILY. I did my research and signed up because I was able to block explicit content for family members, and I did. But guess what, it doesn't apply to podcasts. So guess what? Of course my teen has been using his Spotify account to search up podcasts with explicit sexual content. They aren't hard to find. I want someone from customer service to contact me NOW. It is not hard to allow Premium FAMILY managers to block or allow specific podcasts, or to apply content filters and explicit flagging to podcasts. Please tell me there is a solution I'm just not seeing. Or that there is a fix planned SOON. Or maybe Spotify isn't the right place for families. That's cool. Plenty of other options.

Hey there @mkhstoll!

Thanks for reaching out to the Community!

The Explicit filter also works for podcasts and videos but the the 'explicit' tag won't always show up -  it is recorded in the metadata of the podcast.

Content we identify as explicit is based on information we receive from rights-holders, so it’s possible some explicit content will still play even if you’ve blocked explicit-rated content.

If you'd like to report a podcast as explicit you can reach out to our support team here.

You can also suggest the option to report podcast as explicit via the app on our Ideas board so that it could get support from other users as well. Take a look at this page to see how to post an Idea.

If you're interested in how ideas work and how your feedback reaches the right teams here, check this page out.

Let us know if there's anything else we can do for you. We'd be happy to help.

Welcome to the Spotify Community, @LFNY! We understand your concerns and rest assured we're actively working on making the platform safe and suitable for everyone.

As you mentioned, we've recently introduced a new experience which grants the plan manager additional control over the available content (such as blocking podcasts, disabling video access, restricting playback for certain songs/artists, etc.), making Spotify more suitable for listeners who are too old for a Kids account, but still too young for a standalone account.

There's more info on the topic in this article, check it out if you're interested.

⚠️ Note: While the feature is currently only available in certain regions, everyone's feedback is encouraged and greatly appreciated, as it may ultimately end up paving the way for our broader user experience.

The Community is here if there's anything else you need assistance with.

Spotify does not yet have a way to block podcasts with bad words on Premium Family. The block option works only for songs. Right now parents cannot stop kids from hearing podcasts with adult topics. Spotify has not shared a date for a fix. Families may need to watch kids use or pick other safe apps.

I found your post by searching if there was a class action lawsuit regarding explicit material accessible to minors even after having the explicit filter on my son's account.  I completely agree - there needs to be a class action lawsuit.

It’s a disgrace
