Hi there,

I am really missing a kind of private mode. E.G. I normally only listen do Metal Music. But from time to time I put some Pop music on the speakers when I am on a Party oder christmas music on christmas. But then, my release radar and other playlists are flooded with unwanted tracks for months. I hate it...

Isn't there any chance to use a kind of incognito Mode, so the currently playing music does not affect my listening record? It not, where can I put a feature request to the development team?

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community!

The best way to prevent certain music you listen to (e.g. pop music) from influencing personalized playlists Made For You (such as Release Radar and Discover Weekly) is by turning on Private Session when you listen to it.

You can also read more about how Private Session works in this FAQ article. 

It’s worth mentioning as well that if you’re listening from a playlist, you can exclude that specific playlist from your Taste Profile by selecting this option via its three-dots menu; there’s more info about excluding playlists from your Taste Profile in this support article.

I like to listen to calming music when falling asleep and it’s gotten to the point where I listen to soft piano and hand pan music more than my “daytime” playlists. This has skewed my most listened and favorite song playlists and I already know it’s gonna affect my Spotify wrapped. So there should be a mode that will prevent certain songs from affecting the algorithms and certain playlists.

People have been asking for this since at least 2019. There’s so many reasons why one might want to exclude an artist/album/track from their stats and it would be so easy to add this feature. We can customize the design, length, type, etc of our stats but we can’t “edit, select, hide from stats”??? So frustrating. In my particular case, I used Sleep Fruits to sleep for a while and now it’s stuck in my top 10 on all categories. When I’m sharing stats, Sleep Fruits absolutely shouldn’t count as my #3 album of all time. It’s been a minimum of 5 years we’ve been asking for this, please please please fix it!!!!

Private Session does seem to prevent certain genres or artists from entering my Release Radar either.

I generally listen to Hardstyle & Hardcore or Metal, but I often listen to LoFi while I work or stud, or put on a chill EDM playlist at social gatherings. For years, I have still been getting LoFi artists in my Release Radar or lighter EDM artists after a weekend where I've had a playlist going for a social gathering (in Private Session).

Hey there @chiefkeithg,

Something else you can try is excluding LoFi and EDM playlists you listen to from your taste profile, as @AdamDamon suggested. That way, they will have less of an impact on your recommendations. You can do this from the three dots menu of a playlist > Exclude from taste profile.

Hi,

I often use Spotify in two distinct contexts:

- At work

- When I play with my 2yo son

I have the following problem: every monday, when I am at the office, when I browse my my playlist "Discover Weekly", I have suggestions of children songs (that I don't to listen to when I am working)

I wish I could setup a context / mode when I use Spotify (work / with my children / ...), and appropriate suggestions in "Discover Weekly" given the the context in which I am using Spotify.

Hi! So I was a teacher and now I’m an AST (work with adults with developmental disabilities). In both scenarios, I’ve used my Spotify account HEAVILY (for the job) ie. nap time, cleanup time, and now- tailored towards the participants I’m spending the majority of my day with. We have VERY different music taste. Since I’m at work longer than I’m at home, my Spotify “made for you’s” are taken over by music I personally can’t stand. I love music and I love Spotify, but I want to have my personality protected when it comes to my music. Can you make a “work mode” option or something like it? So those of us who use our accounts to share connections with others; to still have their own “personal” option- so Spotify knows when and what to track for my playlists, “tailored just for me”? Thanks! Let me know what you think. I know I can’t be the only one 🙂
