I pressed the switch to video button and then moved back but now songs default on the video view when I donโ€™t want it to. How do I stop this from happening?

Thank you so much, this really helped me and works fine

seems that the android apk version has the problem and the windows application as well

The only fix is to login through web https://open.spotify.com/

I just want to listen to the song and it keeps putting the music videos, it's annoying because some music videos pause and there's dialogue in the middle of the song or take longer to start the song because of a cinematic intro, for example, and I just want to listen to the song. I have to keep switching to just listening to the song every time, annoying!

I like that there's an option to watch the music video, but not that it's the default and I have to keep changing it ๐Ÿ˜ž

Since the last update, when a song has a video, it will automatically play. I find this very annoying for three reasons:

1- I like listening music at high audio quality, and in most cases, the audio in the videos are lower than the "very high" quality of media I use. Every time I want to listen to a song, I have to interrupt it to switch to video mode.

2- In many videos, there is an intro without music, and I just want to listen to the song, not watching the video and hearing random sounds.

3- I just simply don't want to watch videos. I want to use Spotify to listen to music, and that's it. The dynamic in videos distracts me when I'm studying, for example. I don't want more stimuli than what I already have with social media.

There should be and option to disable video mode. I don't want to watch videos on Spotify, I'm there just for the music.

I hope you can fix this. Before it was quite better.

Please, add a switch that make audio-mode the default one. I want to listen to my music, and SOMETIMES watch a video, not another way around. Right now every song in my library that has a clip starts in video-mode with all the additional buffering, poor audio quality and dialogs from a video. That's unacceptable.

I want to force audio over video in Android, since video quality sucks for most tracks. There should be an option or toggle!

Is there a setting to disable the music videos and switch to audio automatically? (Mobile app)

If I leave my Spotify connected to a BT speaker while I do other stuff, it auto selects videos instead of audio tracks. I can make the switch on every track but what if I don't want to do that? A simple toggle should be included with you magnificent idea. If I don't get this fixed by the end of the week I'm leaving to Amazon Music, who are begging me to switch there.

Hello!

Spotify has recently made some changes to their application (Desktop and iOS) that you are forced to watch Music Videos every time. Personally I do not care about Music Videos and would like to have them turned off. Especially because for some reason recommended music is always one with a Music Video.

Are there any solutions to turn them off completely?

This really bothers me and I am in verge of completely switching music player platforms. I don't watch music, I listen to music.

Bro its been like more than 6 months

maybe its accurate for some of you, but for me its annoying, its taking more internet and its lagging. i have to switch for audio for every time. and when i want just to listen i cant because the video sounds are playing and still i have to switch when every single song is playin. give us the option to turn it off please

Adding my dissatisfaction to this - if it were to continue it would be a reason to switch to another service. The videos are a completely different audio track and often have a very long introduction which is not a part of the actual song. In addition they have different titles and metadata, ruining last.fm integration. Please provide an opt-out sharpish.

Why do I have to manually choose audio over video this makes no sense...this feature is driving me insane! Please allow users to turn videos off completely, ASAP

Hi, has anyone figured out how to stop Spotify from playing video for songs automatically? I click "Switch to audio" and the next song will play video again. It started few days ago (so around March 15th) and it's quite annoying.

My Question or Issue

This is too annoying

Hey there @Banalybe,

Thanks for reaching out!

We can confirm this is currently the expected behavior, and there's no way to disable it at the moment. However, other users also think this would be a good idea. In this case, you can add your vote and subscribe to this thread so you can stay up-to-date with any relevant news about this.

Hope this sheds some light on the matter. The Community will be here if anything else comes up.

My Question or Issue

Spotify has started to play music videos by default when I play songs. Even when I switch to audio, as soon as I play a different song it switches back to video. This is pretty annoying, especially when the music video has different audio, gaps, etc. Is this an intentional feature or should audio be the default? Thanks.

Every time I click a track within a playlist on Windows Desktop app it switches automatically to video, so I need to keep switching back to audio every time I choose to listen to another track. It only keeps playing as audio if I skip to next songs, but not when I intentionally choose a specific song. This is so annoying, why doesn't the application remember I switched to audio? A few days ago I only needed to switch to audio once, now I need to do that EVERY TIME I change a song. Why do I need to keep on switching back to audio EVERY SINGLE TIME I click a song? It is a bug.

Iโ€™ve been getting this issue.
I mostly listen offline, and songs that have video option simply wonโ€™t play offline since it wants to play the video. I have the songs downloaded, and since I canโ€™t even play it I canโ€™t switch off video mode, itโ€™s like the songs arenโ€™t available offline (even though they should be)

Has there been and update on this? Just updated the app and have the same issue still

Hey folks,

Could you confirm if all songs you play switch to video by default, or is it just when played from a specific place (like a playlist, from Search, from an artist page, etc.)? The following details would be greatly appreciated:

  • your device's make, model and OS version
  • the version of Spotify you're running
  • a short screen recording which captures the app's behavior in action

@snatimal, I'd recommend removing the downloads and trying again. You can also test if using another network or cellular data works better. If the issue persists, try performing a clean reinstall of the app.

Let us know how it goes ๐Ÿ‘

I tested the reverse (I want to keep seeing videos after switching to video once).

It does indeed seem to work on Apple platforms! ๐ŸŽ‰ Tested on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Even works with AirPlay streaming to Apple TV. Thanks, this is a great improvement!

However I also tested on Android, where it still doesn't work.

Even if the next song has video available, it's switching back to the audio-only version.
