Video Game Soundtracks

Solved!

Video Game Soundtracks

Something that comes up every once is a while is that people are looking for Video Game soundtracks. Turns out there is a quite a few on Spotify already.

I've tried to collect everything I find in a playlist, which I update fairly regularly as soon as I find things. Check below.

A personal favourite is the soundtrack from Red Dead Redemption. Let me know your thoughts below.

EDIT - I'm trying out our "Play Anywhere" button, but it caps out at 1000 tracks - the link to the full playlist is here - Video Game Music!

I need to make more posts, got a 6 page word document of links that needs writing up.

I guess you're not including Lana Del Rey – Video Games ?

Hah, I'd vaguely considered doing something similar ... so thanks for saving me the effort!

Mirror's Edge has my favorite soundtrack by far. Glad to see you've got it nice and high on the list.  Smiley Tongue

Introduction (for all that it was given a sadly immemorable name) knocked me out from the moment I fired up the game: game soundtrack or not, it's one of the best downtempo tracks ever, and easily one of my favorite tracks, period. The fact that it fits the game's intro/menu sequence perfectly, and that it's essentially a remix of the main "Still Alive" theme that people know, just makes it even more impressive.

There have been lots of rumors and indications of a sequel to ME -- possibly using BF3's Frostbite 2 engine (which would be awesome) -- but no solid movement that I've seen. So I'm hoping EA has the sense to do something more with such an interesting IP and doesn't let it stagnate, and I'm really hoping they tap Magnus Birgersson to do the soundtrack again. The visuals and gameplay were fantastic on their own but the soundtrack gelled the whole experience together into something more.

I was a big fan of Mirror's Edge too, although I rattled through that in a day. Frostbite would be a pretty good fit, although jumping over stuff in Battlefield 3 can still look "janky" in places.

Edit - Added some more tracks today. Ever wanted to listen to the soundtrack to Advent Rising and Conker: Live and Reloaded? Now you can.

Now playing - the exceptional Sword and Sworcery soundtrack.

Here, have a few more to listen to! 🙂 I've been gathering together video game soundtracks on Spotify for a while now. It's a shame so many are still region restricted, though I appreciate Spotify's efforts to link to as many regionally available alternatives where possible!

Edit: oh hey, let's throw out a recommendation too! Give the Dustforce soundtrack a try! I like how it mixes an old school vibe with modern production values.

That's rather monolithic. I take my digital hat off to you, sir!

EDIT - Now added the Fez soundtrack. I'm eagerly awaiting the soundtrack to Journey, too...

Blog looks pretty nice, great work! Personally can't wait to see what you still have to post from your Word document, Matshelge. I'll admit: I'm a sucker for video game soundtracks!

Looking for video game soundtracks would be so much easier if the genres matched the albums. Especially as according to Spotify's documentation a "Video Game Music"  genre is available.

Oh dang... thanks to Matshelge's blog and a few more releases popping up the playlist is now up to 9841 tracks. And if I remember correctly the limit was 10k? Or has this been changed recently?

And people were complaining there wasn't enough video game music on Spotify, hehe. 🙂

Best start splitting up the playlists then, perhaps by genre?

FPS Soundtracks, RPG Soundtracks, RTS Soundtracks, etc.

Or maybe by the music genre?

8-Bit Video Game Soundtracks, Orchestral Video Game Soundtracks, Ambient Video Game Soundtracks, etc.

Personally I'd be really logical about it organise it by decade or something like that. But that's just me.

I just have multiple playlists, and have them all in folders, easier like that.

As for reaching your limit, yea, you will get that in a while, I have not made a dent in my saved up links. Still have around 30 OST albums, and 30 or so cover bands, and half a dozen orchestral things.

I don't tend to include too many licensed tracks in my collection, but I really liked Spec Ops: The Line's use of them. I've made a playlist for it right here

Airhorn Enthusiast

I managed to fill up the playlist to 10,000 tracks. So, I've started a new one to keep up to date.

Video Game Music! 2.0

Airhorn Enthusiast

I can't get to this play list anymore.  I need it!  I see there is a version 2, but where did the playlist "Video Game Music!" go?  Maybe this is a spotify problem dealing with the size of it.  aarrg.  The playlist used to work.

Hi, I'm a composer based in Salt Lake City. I recently composed a piece called "Western Shanghai" for Anime inspired game, Middara (Succubus Publishing). It was commissioned for their interactive app to be used with their board game. If you haven't seen the artwork for Middara, check it out on their website - http://succubuspublishing.com/middara-gallery/

It incorporates an EDM beat with strings and orchestra. They loved it and hope you guys too!

I released my Amiga Works game music album a couple of years ago (Kickstarter funded) which are you welcome to add to the play list. There's also the Spectrum Works which are much more retro from the 8 bit era but redone to modern day standard.
