Banner notifications not working in gnome

Banner notifications not working in gnome

Spotify's banner notifications are broken on ALL Linux desktops with a Gnome version greater that 42. This affects the official Debian package, the snap package, and the flatpak available through flathub. This makes Spotify's notifications almost worthless on Gnome.

The issue is caused by the Spotify client sending notifications, which should display a banner, as low priority. As of Gnome 42, low priority notifications do not display a banner and are instead delivered silently to the system tray. This is the intended behavior of Gnome and Spotify should be updated to work with it.

Previous mention of this issue from 2022 when Gnome 42 started rolling out:

Proposed Solution:
Increase the priority of Spotify's notifications from low to normal. This should be an incredibly easy fix but it's existed in the client for over 3 years now.
