Hi Spotify Team,
I'm excited to see that lossless audio has finally started rolling out to Premium subscribers! However, I've noticed that the Linux desktop client appears to be missing this highly anticipated feature.
According to the September 10, 2025 announcement, lossless streaming is available on "mobile, desktop, and tablet" - but when I check my Linux Spotify client settings, there's no option to enable lossless quality under Media Quality settings. The highest available option is still "Very High" rather than the new "Lossless" setting mentioned in the announcement.
As a Linux user and Premium subscriber, I'd really appreciate having feature parity with other desktop platforms. Many Linux users are audiophiles who would greatly benefit from 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC streaming, especially since we often have high-quality audio setups.
Could you please confirm:
I understand the feature is rolling out gradually, but it would be great to know that Linux users aren't being left behind on this major Premium feature enhancement.
Thanks for your time and for continuing to improve Spotify!
I too use FiiO headphone amp and beyerdynamic headphones. The sound differences between 44.100/16 are huge. More is better, but 44.100/24 would be great. On my android device it sounds perfect. Tried to switch to Tidal but I am not conviced yet. I will get back as soon there is a linux update. librespot update for lossless support would also desirable.
When?
I have lossless on Android and iOS (ipad) but not Linux on the PC. Apparently the Linux port is a passion project, not a profit project. So there's that. Soon(tm) 😜
where do you get the profit numbers from?
I would say, making the linux client costs them nothing, because they already use an open source chromium wrapper. It is just an js/ts app out of the box. You just have to create the file and distribute it. Do you have other information on that topic?
I'd also like to add my support for lossless on Linux. Really enjoying it on my phone but would also like to be able to use it on my PC.
I've just renewed my subscription after noticing that Lossless is available on mobile phones, only to find out that this feature is missing on the linux client. I would really like to see this as an option for the linux client, too. Cause it's my daily driver. Otherwise, I'll most likely switch streaming services once again, I would love to stay here, on the other hand.
Another vote for linux support please
Lossless is available on my iOS device, but not on my only personal computing device. Please add support!
Another vote for Linux support. Extremely disappointing not having lossless audio available.
Would also love to have lossless support on Linux.
Bump!
Just got access to lossless today on my phone but they still haven't updated the AUR distribution :x
Hopefully they're working on it but some sort of communication would be nice ❤️
I want it, too, for linux!
On iPhone i have it since today. But iPhone Speakers cannot show the difference 🙂
I have a good Sennheiser headphone that wants the upgrade!
It's likely that the Spotify for Linux client won't receive updates anymore and therefore won't receive lossless support.
Linux is not an official supported platform (anymore) as seen on the list of supported platforms. And the download page even states “[The engineers] work on it in their spare time and it is currently not a platform that we actively support. The experience may differ from our other Spotify Desktop clients, such as Windows and Mac.”
The lossless feature is amazing, works with my smart TV, Mac and iPhone. Looking to switch to Linux permanently on my desktop as Linux has become really good for gaming now (proton) and would really like this implemented. Can someone from the official Spotify team provide an answer, and if there is any intention, what sort of timelines are in place. Thank you! 🙂
First time I read this. Thank you for the info. Therefore I have to switch back to Tidal. I switched to Tidal about 10 days before the lossless release. So I switched back to Spotify. I would prefer Spotify because I was a paying customer over 10 years. When there is no active support for a Linux Client and a home streaming solution i have no longer use for it. I am so sad I have to put the work into the transition to Tidal but seems like there is no other way.
Linux user and Spotify premium member from the very beginning. Would love to see lossless on the Linux client! Please 🙂
My account just got access, so Linux support for lossless streaming has become urgent.
+1 for the Linux support.
+1 I spotted it on my dual-boot of windows last night. Excited to come back to my main OS and it wasn't there 😭
I spoke to somebody at Spotify Support, this was what they said to me:
No worries, Thanks by the way! So, I’ve confirmed with the team that currently, lossless is only available on Mac and Windows for a desktop, and Linux isn’t compatible yet. For now, if you want to use this feature, I recommend using one of your other devices. Hopefully, we’ll be able to roll out this feature to more devices soon.
For now, there’s no additional information yet, and we’re still rolling out this feature gradually too. I recommend making sure your app is up to date, so once it’s ready, it will automatically be available on your Linux desktop 🙂
It seems that there is a future intention which is good, but they have not implemented this yet.
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
