My Question or Issue

Hi,

since quite a lot of time the App on my MacBook doesn’t work properly. Basically, I can’t go on any playlist besides the one I was able to download before the bug, nor can I search new songs or even just go on the home page. If I try to, a “something went wrong” message pops up. I can’t even see the songs lyrics. I can just listen to the songs on that one playlist I downloaded. What can I do?

Hi there @mariii17!

It's possible that you have Offline mode toggled on. To turn it off:

  1. Open Spotify.
  2. In the Apple menu at the top of the screen, click Spotify.
  3. Find Offline mode and switch it off.

If that doesn't do the trick, I'd recommend resetting your preferences by deleting the prefs file, located in the Spotify installation folder:

  1. Open Finder on your Mac and click Go > Library (if you don't have hidden folders enabled, press the option key first and it should appear).
  2. Go to Application Support > Spotify.
  3. There you'll find a file called prefs, which holds info about the currently logged in account. Simply delete it.
  4. While in the Spotify folder, you'll also find a Users folder. Open it and delete its contents as well.
  5. Restart the Spotify app.

Note that you'll be logged out and your settings will be reset, so you'll have to adjust them again. You'll have to re-download your offline content as well. Your library, however, will not be affected, so no worries there.

Cheers 🤘

Hi @yordan,

I’ve tried to do what you said and it’s still not working. Do u have any other suggestion?

thank you!!

Hi there @mariii17,

Thanks for keeping in touch and for trying out our recommendations.

You can try checking your Host file by following these steps. Additionally, if you haven't, try to clean reinstall your app, and check if that makes a difference.

If nothing helps, go to your Account Overview page and Sign out everywhere. Additionally, remove access to all the apps you've connected to your account from here. You can easily reconnect your apps anytime. Once done, log back in and check if that makes a difference.

Lastly, check if you have the same issue from the Web Player.

Keep us posted!

Try these steps:

  1. Ensure the Spotify app has been quit.
  2. Open Finder.
  3. Click Shift + Command + G which would open a dialog where you can enter a location to Go to.
  4. In the dialog, enter "Library/Application Support/Spotify/PersistentCache/Storage".
  5. Delete the contents of the Storage folder.
  6. Re-open Spotify and see if the problem is resolved.

Hi @Susan_GP

thank you for answering! I've tried anything and it's still not working. I don't have problems with the web problems since if I log in Spotify via internet it goes as expected. I think the problem is in the app, since it's the only part where it doesn't work properly.

Do u have any other suggestion?😭

Hey @mariii17,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop!

Could you try changing the Enable hardware acceleration setting to see if you notice any difference? You can do so by clicking your profile picture > Settings > Scroll down to Compatibility. If it's currently switched on, you can try turning it off, and then log out from the app and back in again.

Another option, if that doesn't do the trick, is to check if you experience the same thing with another internet connection. If you're currently using WiFi, you can create a hotspot in your phone and connect your Mac to that connection.

Let us know how it goes!
