Running on OS X Mavericks. I went to go do something and I came back to my computer and my spotify was logged out and I can't seem to log back in. Is there any sort of backend update that happened recently that would cause this? I would switch to the web player but the audio cuts out after about 10 seconds so I can't use it. I've tried changing settings to select 'No Proxy' but it doesn't seem to do anything.
Hey there folks,
Thanks for reaching out here in the Community.
We understand your frustration and we'd like to explain a bit more of what's happening here.
At Spotify, we are always working to provide our users with the best possible listening experience. We continuously encourage users to use the latest version of our app as it contains the newest features and bug fixes.
To pave the way for a broader and better user experience, we have shut down Spotify desktop application versions that have been released before April 2021. That’s why customers who have been using an app version released before then will lose their access to the app after the sunset.
Older versions of the app often have broken or missing features due to their old interface, which cannot support the latest Spotify experience. In addition some of these old apps have security vulnerabilities associated with underlying older technologies. These vulnerabilities are not available on the latest versions of the app and can only be eliminated by shutting down services built with older technologies.
If you own a computer (Mac or Windows) with a version of Spotify app older than 1.1.59, then you should try to update the app to the latest version to keep enjoying Spotify, we have instructions on this support page to help you. We recommend making sure that your Operating System is updated to the latest version first.
In the meantime, you can also enjoy your favorite music and podcasts through the Spotify Web Player.
Lastly, don't worry - your account is still active and no changes will be made to your playlists, play history or preferences.
Hope this clears things up.
Some people cant update to newer versions + the newer UI in them is truly awful. It clearly isnt an isolated opinion seeing how many people chose not to update and the backlash it received once it was released. It's clear you dont ever listen to your users' feedback. This really sucks but I'm not paying 10€ a month for an app that can't even work on the laptop I use the most daily and looks ugly in any other 😕
I could not agree more!!
I too am a working music producer, and I've stayed with a version of ProTools that I prefer (for a myriad technical reasons I won't bore anyone with here) that means OSX 10.9.5 is my highest operating system.
This whole hand-wavy "Oh, just upgrade" attitude is SO divorced from reality, that it really makes me angry.
As you've very correctly pointed out here LordAmazement (... "new System, leads to new software, leads to new Mac etc."), the real world is way more complicated than some trite comment that takes two seconds to say, but tens of thousands in real money and effort to execute.
Spotify, please find some sense and rectify this appalling situation.
I for one won't wait forever for a solution. Already looking at the competitors as we speak.
still broken...

My Question or Issue
As per title. ever since I had upgraded my OSX and therefore upgraded my Spotify desktop app it has had several problems syncing/continuing off with my other devices. I have Spotify installed on my iphone and an android box. Between the phone and andorid box I have no problems. But when I want to control or continue playing off my Macbook is when problems happen.
Eg. - Playlists like my Daily Mix on my phone and android box are similar but on Macbook is totally different.
- When I want to switch playing from my android box to Macbook or vice versa, always get an error or it plays some other different song than is currently playing.

For a while now I cannot log in into my Desktop App, neither via email/username nor Facebook log in. Oo the app on my iPhone logging in works fine. Upon logging in on Desktop it says I need to be a Premium member, which I am since years. Again, on iPhone app, no issues.

My Question or Issue
After years of Premium Duo subscription with no problems, today I cannot open the desktop app as it shows this message when I attempt login:
"This app is restricted to Premium users only. (Error code: access point:22)."
I am able however to access my account via web.
Hey @igarciagimeno,
Thanks for posting in the Community.
Is your Duo subscription still running?
Does this error message occur on a different desktop device with the desktop app?
Could you make sure you're using the right login credentials for the Premium account?
Keep us posted.
Cheers!
I think the reasons you stated in your post are contributing reasons to why the legacy desktop apps no longer work, albeit, I don't believe they are the primary incentivizing reasons explaining why users are logged out. From what I believe is a corporate perspective, the ultimate reason(s) for deprecating the legacy apps is not only for security, feature, ease-of-development, etc., but it is primarily to force remaining users off the old user experience and onto the new experience (possibly for improving user conversion rates, satisfying stake and shareholders, etc). While there are a number of reasons why a given end user may not be updating their Spotify software (e.g. compatibility reasons), it seems that Spotify product strategists understand that there is a population of users hanging on to older versions simply because the felt that the older experience is better (more intuitive, straightforward interface, easier to navigate, acclimation, etc); but as stated before, the company has stake and shareholder interests so to appease them (possibly), the decision to implement the new experience was worth the expense of the legacy one (even if it meant upsetting users and potentially losing long-standing users and premium subscribers). I know this reply is uncalled for, but I think if anyone is looking for a true meaningful reason, this reply is it.
Question is, is the new user experience worth the update?
I tried the instructions on the support page you mentioned but there is a catch 22. I can't update without logging in and I can't login because of this error. Why not make updating of the application possible without login?
I have the exact same problem. I've basically given up on using Spotify on my computer.

I switched from an individual to a Duo account, and I can no longer log into my desktop application. When I try to log in, I get the error: "This app is restricted to Premium users only. (Error code; accesspoint:22)"
