Crashing on startup/search issues

Solved!

Crashing on startup/search issues

Hi all,

A number of users are experiencing some Spotify issues at the moment - crashing on startup, search not working, etc.

Could you help us out by posting the following info:

-- Operating system(s) affected

-- Version of Spotify

-- Country

Thanks everyone. The more accurate info we can collect the faster we can get this fixed.

Yes, it crashed.

No it does not, but when I go to the "discover" tab I does. So I guess I just have to stay away from that tab and it will be fine.

I've had this same problem this morning as well. I'm located in Finland. I followed the instructions on earlier post to take off internet connection, open spotify. I think the problem is wth Discover page as it seemed to crash everytime after loading but when you open spotify offline, it doesn't get to load that tab.

Launching it by going straight to a playlist might work for you then:

Spotify Community_Top Stars Selection - Click on this link and it should open the client on a playlist page rather than discover.

Hey all,

Please keep your reports coming in of any crashing you're having on startup.

If you're experiencing crashing when adding/removing tracks to/from a playlist please post here instead.

And remember, we have really useful troubleshooing guides for Windows and Mac that you may find useful.

Thanks!

23 pages on this thread alone (!) and no fix. The clean reinstalls/turning off WiFi and enabling offline mode and going back online/Gregorian chants are not working for too many people. Spotify: If you're simply waiting for OS X 10.9 to resolve whatever systems bottleneck is forcing the near-instant crashing at startup, just say so and we'll hang loose. Otherwise, the most intuitive UI for navigating your service is broken, and that means $10/month wasted.

On both my Windows (7) computer and my Mac (OS 10.6.8), Spotify crashes on opening, after it has already crashed once. I've followed the uninstall/reinstall instructions for both and am able to use the desktop application for a while after that. However, the application ultimately crashes, either when I'm adding a song to a playlist, adding a new playlist, or trying to use an app (Pitchfork, Blue Note, etc.). It's only a matter of time. After this first crash, though, it will not open properly again. The desktop will launch, then crash after about 10-20 seconds. I'll then have to uninstall and reinstall. The application will work, for a time, but the crash will come eventually (as described above), then the uninstall, reinstall, etc., etc., etc. Very frustrating.

I'm growing very tired of this process. The crashes have been happening for about two weeks now. Not sure what happened to my account that it is happening on two separate computers, 11 miles apart. Both computers are on different ISPs, in different parts of the city (Orlando, FL). I've tried to attach the .dmp and the .dmp.extra file from my Mac, as indicated I should do here, but the forum will not accept them.

I am now having this problem. I can play playlist but I cannot search or look at discovery page. If I do program crashes. Has there been a solution found? Running OS X 10.8.4.

My windows app keeps crashing too. I first noticed the crashes when I added ptichfork. It would work for a while until I started to search using pitchfork. Lately is has gotten worse meaning the crashes are more often. Today I open the app and try to do anything and it crashes. I can't even reposition the window within the desktop without it crashing. Let me know if you need any information regarding my machine. I am running on windows 7. If you want patch versions etc. let me know.

OK. Sorry for the double post. Here is the information you would like.

Country: USA

Processor: Intet Core i5-2540M CPU @2.60GHz

If you have a patch you would like field tested please send me an email (user name joe_pember) and I would be glad to help.

Discover seems to be causing my crashes.  The app worked fine until today.  Then it would crash several seconds after openeing with no errors messages given.  Using Win 7.

I tried the link to go right to a playlist and now I'm sucessfully listening to music.

Prior to trying the link I uninstalled and reinstalled, but the problem persisted after the reinstall.

Currently paying £10 a month for a service I can't use properly because it kept crashing whenever I added or deleted tracks from playlists, and today it's started crashing about 30s after opening up.

This doesn't sound like crashing on startup/search but more like the discussion in this thread.

Spotify is crashing again when scrolling in the discover page.

Today the Spotify client is totally unusable, it keeps crashing randomly every couple of minutes, sometimes while I am browsing the music library, sometimes while I'm reading the "Discovery" section, sometimes while I try to play a song.

I also tried to reinstall it without luck.

I really can't use it.

Spotify was crashing all morning within 20 seconds of opening no matter what I did.

Re-installed and got same error.

Tried offline mode and that kept it from crashing just a few minutes ago.

Tried online mode and now it is working again.  I do have a lyrics app (tunewiki) which I was hoping is not the problem. Anyways fixed for now...
