[Desktop] Local files can't be linked properly

[Desktop] Local files can't be linked properly

I imported playlists to Spotify from iTunes on iPhone.

Imported playlists can be played normally on iPhone, but some can't be played on Mac.

Music that can't be played normally is displayed like this: "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it."

The feature of music that can't be played normally have different duration.

Music of the same duration can play normally (Successfully linked).

Please see the screenshot below.

Imported music's duration is displayed as 3:38 and is grayed out.

Files added manually are displayed as 3:37.

Looking at the information of the original file, both Finder and iTunes are displayed as 3:38.

In other words, the duration recognized by iTunes and Spotify is different.

Is there a way to link successfully in this situation?

There are many playlists, so it takes a lot of time to do it manually.

Hey @hirokiseiya,

Thanks for reaching out to us about this.

We noticed from your screenshot that the media files in question are in .mpeg format. Note that this file type is not supported for local files - more info on that here.

If you're encountering this issue with songs that are in the correct format as indicated in the support article I linked to, then do you mind trying to re-import your local files using the steps listed here?

Note that you'll have to import your local files to your desktop first before being able to play them on your mobile device.

Let us know how it goes! We'll be here in case you need any further help with this.

MPEG is audio kind which has the extension of .MP3. I have the same issue as the OP. It seems to be an issue with Spotify in Catalina where Spotify shows wrong metadata - wrong song lengths (some random songs are 1 second shorter or longer songs are 0:01 etc) or something else wrong while the Music app and finder info show correct metadata.

I've posted about this twice without any comment. I've opened a case with the official support months ago without any fixes to this.

My thread in beta forum which has a link to another thread: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotify-for-Desktop-Beta/Issue-with-reading-ID3tags-in-Mac-client/m...

The issue is that if you have your local files in multiple computers (Mac and Windows for example) then in one computer all the tracks in a playlist with local files are available and in the other computer some tracks are not available because Spotify thinks the metadata is different while it's actually not.
