Desktop Spotify crashes every time on macOS 10.14.6

Desktop Spotify crashes every time on macOS 10.14.6

Plan Premium

Bulgaria

Device

MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018)

Operating System

Mojave 10.14.6

My Question or Issue

Everytime I try to start Spotify it just crashes (does not start). Tried adding in privacy settings accessibility, no luck.

Tried uninstalling the app to install again. But after the download progress bar from the installer it just dies.

I think it might have something to do with upgrading to latest XCode 11 released by Apple but cannot be 100% sure. I see no crash reports in Console app. Also no logs in /var/log/* during the crash.

Please advise.

Best,

JD

Hi there!

I know it sounds simple, but it's often overlooked. Could you try restarting your device? If that doesn't help, try a quick clean reinstall of the app. Just follow these steps.

I have Xcode 11 installed as well but no issues with it. Could you also try updating your Mojave 10.14.6 as Apple released a Supplementa Update yesterday or today, I'm currently downloading it 🙂

If you're still having trouble, could you let me know the exact version of Spotify and the exact version of the operating system you're running?

I'll see what I can suggest next!

Hi there,

I tried the steps as you suggested.
1. Removed Spotify
2. Upgraded to latest Mojave (latest supplemental update)
3. Removed Library/Cache/com.spotify.*  folders
4. Restarted mac
5. Installed spotify again
6. Seems installed but when I try to start it this is what I see in system logs

Sep 30 07:51:58 Julians-MacBook-Pro com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.spotify.client.36852[530]): Service exited due to SIGABRT

Hey @jdavchev,

Thanks for letting me know 🙂

Could you try that on Safe Mode? Just hold the Shift key when booting up to access it.

Also, give the steps from this Spotify Answer a try to see if that helps.

Keep me posted.

Hi,

1. Tried the provided trick with answers - no luck, still cannot start.

2. Tried in safe mode - no luck, still cannot start.

So Spotify is just not working anymore or? Should I look for another service?

Hey @jdavchev,

Could you share a screen recording of the issue?

You can do that using CMD+SHIFT+5.

Keep me posted 🙂

Hi,

Link is to video recording of the crash and the output it produces using:

tail -f /var/log/*

Hey @jdavchev,

Could you try this Spotify Answer for a clean reinstallationcheck all the tips available they might be everywhere in it (top, middle or bottom).

Also, do you mind reinstalling Xcode 11? If you can try making a thorough uninstall of it so there won't be any leftovers.

Thanks 🙂

Doesn't work either.

I removed my premium subscription, will use some other service.

Does not seem to be a concerns that there is a bug. Going around in circles.
