How does one move local files to a new location?

Solved!

How does one move local files to a new location?

How can I move the folder containing my local files to a new location, while maintaing my local tracks in my playlists?

My attempt so far:

1. Move the folder to a new location

2. Remove the old local files source in Preferences

3. Add the new local files source in Preferences

Expected Result:

Spotify rescans and links to songs in the new location

Actual Result:

All songs under "Local Files" appear duplicated, and when attempting to play any song, I recive an error message "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it." (even after Spotify is restarted). If I then move the folder back to its original location, all the songs play, even though the original location is no longer registered as a local files source.

Hey @Shabissen, welcome to the Community.

Hope you are doing great!

First of all try to save the songs you have locally in the location you want, also turn off Local Files inside Settings.

Then follow the steps listed below to do a clean install of Spotify:

  1. Click Spotify in the menu bar then Quit Spotify.
  2. Open Finder then click Go > Library in the menu bar. (You may need to hold the Alt key if Library isnโ€™t visible).
  3. Open Caches and delete the com.spotify.Client folder.
  4. Click the back arrow.
  5. Open Application Support and delete the Spotify folder.
  6. Download and install Spotify.

I've tried moving my own local files before and it doesn't work. The only thing you can do right now is just keep your local files in a seperate playlist.

Thatโ€™s unfortunate ๐Ÿ˜ž
