Mac - Spotify prevents the display from going sleep

Mac - Spotify prevents the display from going sleep

After the recent upgrade to MacOSX - my monitors stop going into the sleep.   At first, I thought it was OS update.

I changed 'Energy Saver' setting to default and reboot and it continued to prevent.   Then I investigate futher - using "pmset -g"

displaysleep 10 (display sleep prevented by Spotify)

I did not even start any application.  I noticed that spotify was started minimized (which I did not ask to do) but previously spotify did not prevent display from sleeping.

Then I noticed that Spotify opens to "Browse" - which has fancy banner about Coldplay.   If I switch to the regular playlist without any heavy graphic, it won't prevent to go sleep.

Seriously - Spotify should not prevent display from going sleep.   I understand prevent idle while music is playing but display.  Especially, it is already minimized and no music is playing.

Please fix.

Having the exact same problem. Closed Spotify and display sleep works fine. This is ridiculous.

I have this problem still in 2024! 😐

Ok if your mac user is admin you can use this command: "pmset sleepnow"!

This will sleep although spotify is open. Even works if playing music currently.
